Should kpop album cycles/era become longer?

Like doing pre releases? One or two songs before the album is released and then another song released as single when the album is out. But this possible only if full albums are released. Minis won't allow this. I feel short eras is a reason why sometimes viral songs etc don't really get proper promotions. I do think some soloists already do this if it's a full album

  • Absolutely. It's not even about viral songs i feel like most songs from albums should be promoted with performances and groups should not just continuously keep releasing 2+ albums every year.

  • I don't think so each group should comeback as often as they like whether it be short or long it's up to them and their company to dictate their music release timetables

  • yes i'd be all for it. sometimes i feel like it is such a waste when a group releases a full album with over 10 songs and then only promote like 2. more and more artists should get to promote their whole albums and show off every song if possible.

for example i liked what Super Junior did with their Mamacita album in 2014. Instead of releasing a regular repackage with a new title track, they went back and gave MVs to two bsides from their original album and promoted them in music shows, add that to the bside artists usually promote in their comeback week and they ended up promoting 4 songs from the same album. in 2015 with their Devil album, they promoted a different bsides in each music show so they ended up promoting 5 songs from the same album. and in 2019 with their Super Clap album, even those they only promoted 2 songs in music shows, they still released 4 promotional videos for songs aside from the main MV. Yesung also did something similar for his mini album last year and 5 out of 7 songs got either MVs or official performance/live videos.

Only the company decide lol in most cases. I guess i want some more attention on the whole album instead of one song?

  • Definitely! So many bsides will probably only be heard by core fans who listen to albums, even the casuals may miss them. Doja cat for an example released two mvs ahead of her album and then released another one at album release. Later she released two more mvs for her bsides. Out of 13 songs she promoted 5 and recently posted a mv in 2022 when her album came out in June of 2021 so she got over 6 months of content from that.

Now Kpop doesn't have to be that extreme but it would certainly make things easier as it takes time to create a new album. In the long run it makes sense to utilize what you already have and make it last.

  • It would be cool but that is way too much stress for idols as promotions are very hard of them. I would love to but I rather let the idols rest.

Maybe lesser comeback or more gap after the promotions are over?

I can agree with that but I guess the idols themselves especially the bigger or more established ones have some say...

ahhh I was speaking with bunnyviolet about that like yesterday and yeah but it takes so much more effort to record entire albums or even minis as compared to one song and I'm guessing that if the company can package an actual physical product with that one (or sometimes two) songs they make as much money for less effort
