I think voting reform should focus a little more on how votes are counted- there are voting systems out there that play nicely with not stamping out independents or centrists.

Seems like the front runners were all horrible. There was a female candidate who sounded awesome actually - not a creep, pro-ordinary Koreans, already went to great lengths for employment rights, but she has a vagina, so obviously was not going to win.

With what's happening in Europe now, there's not much leeway given to anyone who can be tied to China or Russia. Koreans even willing to support a far right anti feminist anti working class reactionary candidate over a far left pro communist, even older women.

With respect to Kpop, it's best for all idols to NEVER mention politics in Korea. Nothing good can ever come of it.

This was actually a really interesting election.

The results in terms of how different demographics voted aren't out yet but reading up on articles leading to the election, people in their 20's/early 30's were going to be the swing voters as they used to lean left but they were unsure leading up to this.

Ridiculous house prices, bad inequality, lack of good job opportunities etc has led to a strong belief that you can't succeed unless you have rich families and the previous regime accentuated that feeling, pushing that age group to the right.

In the last few years there's been quite a few "scandals" all related to the housing market, mainly rich people speculatively buying land/apartments and the outage it brings stems from how unaffordable buying is in SK.

Recent popular Korean shows/films such as Parasite and Squid Game have really played on the current inequality aspect well.
