Kpop is so obsessed with performance and dance and sales..

Nothing wrong with focusing on performance and dance. They're essential to K-pop. I get you, though. Music is still the most important for me.
Sales... No. The fixation on that is something I still can't get behind. I get that it's fun to pay attention to that and I respect everyone's right to discuss it, but it's just not something I consider part of the K-pop experience. When these groups' careers are done, wouldn't it be better to look back and remember them for their music, dance, and performance, not their sales and chart positions?

Kpop has everything actually. Charts and sales data for success stans, MVs and stages for dance fans, and obviously music. Kpop even has fanservice for those that want to become emotionally invested in their faves.

I'm only obsessed with sales when my faves are promoting. It's because I like seeing my faves hold music show trophies and perform encores. Sales are one of the metrics used to calculate music show scores. When my faves are on hiatus, I ignore what goes on the charts. Most of my faves take long hiatuses.
I'm getting antsy waiting for the Gaon digital chart.

at the end of the day kpop is a business which means companies that fail to turn a profit means it goes out of business
idols that don’t make money regardless of how many fans or the quality of music one has go broke…
one still has to put food on the table, clothes on the body, a house for shelter etc etc

I am going to sound like a bitter second generation stan when I am a full or almost third generation stan lol but the last day, I decided to listen to all the Kpop albums by a girl group released in 2007. They were all debuting or rookies and Seeya, BEG, Wonder Girls, Kara or SNSD were coming back several times a year with full albums and no fillers. In fact, the albums sound very cohesive and well-thought. Nowadays, companies prefer to release singles or minis with a fancy choreography and call it a day. I still enjoy the music but it's obvious that Kpop companies prefer to make money over music while in the past, they were making music by releasing money (because let's face it making money was still the primary goal).
As for fans, why would they share their passion about music when some can have their ridiculous competition to feed their ego ?

also, not even just sales. They will compare the most meaningless metrics like who in what subcategory was the first or fastest to reach some arbitrary milestone in a narrow category of market behavior.
XXXX is the first 4th Gen female idol with short hair that pets a kitten on vlive for 5 minutes straight without causing a world war 3.

Lol pretty much. That's what they sound like to me
