I think all these 4 songs play with the structure and add sounds extremely different that make everything sounds like a bunch of songs in one .

I remember that some people said that Aria was involved with someone who worked in SM, but it was never confirmed.

    What's your favorite?

  • Compared to the other songs, Aria sounds very cohesive + smooth, aside from 1-2 transitions. I digg it. The other 3 have way more drastic rhythm/melodic changes.

IGAB was my gateway song into kpop almost 8 years ago so it holds alot of weight to me. 1 big reason was that the switching of tempos + sounds made sense for what it was conveyed lyrically + concept wise (different viewpoints + thoughts of infatuation) without it feeling like a gimmick. The music is actually part of the storytelling + not its main selling point.

Next Level (at times) + O.O (currently, need to delve deeper context wise) feels Frankenstein-ish but without a humane soul within. Parts stitched together but with no true genuine spirit in regards to what the song theme represents. So there's almost no reason for how dramatic the song are switching + transitioning other than to say that "we mixed these sounds/songs. WE ARE DIFFERENT."

So, IGAB is still among my favorites when it comes when it comes to these kind of songs. As much as I like interesting + wild takes on music structures, the others just don't sit + settle well to my full enjoyment.

  • First time hearing Aria and it sounds mostly like 1 song, just the switch up with the bridge onward. Don’t really think it belongs in the same category as the others. Maybe zimzalbim should be there instead

Speaking of others. IGAB is still by fat the best execution of the mash up style. Each individual component sounds good on its own, it’s the transitions that can make or break it for people but I think they work pretty well. The song also keeps building layers on top of layers (the final chorus combines almost every section that came before) so that’s an element that others don’t have. Plus the lyrics, dances and mv scenes are all integrated into the song it self so it comes an entire package. It’s arguably the best produced song ever in kpop

Next level and OO sound disjointed. None of the sections blend well together and I think that’s the producers intentions but I don’t really like it. Next level at least had a decent chorus. OO plain sucks overall, the end part sounds decent but it’s very different from the rest of the song as if someone decided to stick it on to make the song longer lol.

  • First time hearing Aria and it doesn’t feel like it belongs in this convo. It seems like it’s the same song and pacing unlike the other tracks here.

IGAB is iconic so I voted for it but I prefer Next Level as a song.

  • I remember telling Sones when it came out that I thought it was one of SNSD's best, lol. It's funny how, when Mr.Mr came out the following year, everyone was so excited for a "return to form," but I see way more people who praise IGAB these days than Mr.Mr.

That IGAB to MR MR 180 could give whiplash lol.

A lot of people hated IGAB because it was too insane and they wanted a normal song. Mr Mr comes along and everyone is like this is too safe. And like you said in the years since IGAB has become one SNSD most iconic and liked songs, imagine telling everyone that in 2013, they think you escaped an asylum lol.
