why did I ask this question?

I know I always say I don't care for ballads but there are actually a lot of songs I love here!

My votes here are for:

Make Your Day / Rainy Night

These feel to me like they belong together because they are very retro ol skool R&B style dramatic piano ballads. Jaehyun's gorgeous husky portion during the intro at :25 on Make Your Day is just chef's kiss, and goes Taeil's heart aching run from :43 to :54. Man, I could keep going - the instrumental is spare but it's a gorgeous song. Rainy Night feels like its sequel, opening with the always perfect 1-2 punch of Jaehyun and Taeil's voices side by side.

Enjoy this live practice. Doyoung vocal flexing while sitting on the floor. We see you, boo.

No Longer

An old-fashioned weeper. Live version always preferred. Dramatic and emotional, singing "she no longer needs me."

From Home

I love this for a lot of reasons - vocals for days - but notably that it highlights the power and diversity of the NCT vocals. Everyone on this song kills it - from the sweet strength of Kun to thunderous Taeil to high and plaintive Renjun to emotional Doyoung. This also has a very r&b ballad vibe to me and I really love the lyrics about how the other person has become their comfort and joy: "Under this light, when we look at each other, even not noticing myself, I smile and i forget, cuz I am not alone. You are my warming home. Who I was yesterday and who I am today and who we will be tomorrow, it all starts from home." I'm not crying, you're crying.

Are I.O.U and Faded in my last song really ballads though? Then those are my picks. If we talk about like more classic type of ballad No Longer is the best hands down, although Knock on and Fly Away with me are also great.

Ngl, I struggled how to split this out. There are a number of other songs that can fall into technically being ballads but it was getting to be too difficult for people to weed through or new people to check out so I tried to take a narrower view but it's tricky.
