Why is this even a question? Everyone knows it's twice. Hardly any 2nd gen groups can compete with top 3rd gen groups internationally.

It's like asking the question: "Who is more popular internationally - Beethoven or Elvis Presley?"

Two very different time periods, many very different ways of music recording and distribution, changes in musical styles and trends, changes in world population, etc. The answer is either so simple that it is useless, or so complex that it's difficult to give any sort of objective answer that isn't just pure subjective opinion.

Comparing the international kpop scene to a decade ago is kind of impossible. Even midtier groups with no domestic hits can hold small tours in the Americas and Europe now (Africa and Australia are imaginary )

Twice but I see SM growing internationally with aespa.

Even mid tire groups today are bigger than many 2nd gen groups internationally. It’s not worth the comparison.

The comparison isn’t valid IMO. With time if you see older acts can amass streams even now. That’s not the case for kpop where things are fleeting and not memorable so it’s much easier to say 3rd gen is more popular unanimously than 2nd gen. Because I haven’t really seen any 2nd gen act hold the test of time. Might also be true for 3rd Vs 4th eventually.

If you ask NOW: obviously Twice.

But if you ask at the respective peak: SNSD
