Bada is considered SM's strongest singer (which is not true) but the reason why she is held in such high regard is because she debuted at a time most groups didn't sing. She had no visuals to the public but she could SING. Then other groups started debuting, and more vocal rnb groups began to move towards kpop. There was a golden age of vocals in kpop, Kim Yeonji, Seeya was a vocal group, Ock Joohyun improved later but was a nice vocalist before FINKL, and Younha.
Many groups did mention that 1st gen groups would fail if presented with the present standards, but are nostalgically held up by fans. Actually knb had the BEST singers, Ann One, solos like Jung Dongha, Lena Park, Lee Sunhee, Park Hyoshin - etc
