D4 topped Gallup & appeared higher on the year end charts. It had a little more time but not much & it ended up much higher.

Never seen anyone talk about DDDD after 2018 tbh. It was just a successful song for 2018 hence why it topped charts but it’s not generation defining nor memorable

Growl ofc. It’s impact and relevance to kpop is just unmatched. Would be delusional to discredit its sheer impact. Even today people talk about growl with reverence.

Also I don’t think it’s valid to compare songs pre 2015 to ones after. Other than based on arbitrary metrics I suppose.

if you didn't live in Korea when Growl dropped or in its aftermath you're not qualified to talk about it. The impact it had on Korean pop culture was just enormous, beyond just how played/downloaded the song was. Anyone who lived in Korea during that time could tell you that.

The only other songs/groups that have matched it since were Twice with Cheer Up/TT in 2016 and pretty much all BTS starting with Boy with Luv to now. D4 may have been slightly more popular with the GP but it was just another big song. There have been other songs just as big or even bigger since then, but they had no tangible impact on Korean culture.

Internationally, it's obviously D4 tho.

There you go finally someone gets it. I tell you growl is nothing but hype. I went and checked gaon digital chart. And since everyone makes Growl look like a hit. Growl couldn't even rank 1 on gaon weekly or monthly chart. It also couldn't make the top 10 on gaon yearly chart which consists of all the real hits. Compared that to DU DDU-DU which made it at top 5 of gaon yearly chart.

You’re not gonna convince me DDDD is impactful beyond 2018 with that in Korea lol.

Those produce group songs are the effort of their main groups. They could have sang any song at that point and it would have gone viral. Lol.

Anyway idk why you want to convince me. You aren’t gonna.

Why are we comparing a song released in 2013 with a song released in 2018.

Both in different times and each song was one of the biggest in their years

If you were around then you would know sure it was talked about it alot and trended but didnt have the stats to back it up at all.

Who cares the "impact" it had vocally when it didnt do anything sales/streaming wise.

In 2013, the price for downloads nearly doubled, so the only song released in 2013 to be certified in downloads was IU's Friday (it has 5 million certified downloads), which was released in the last week of the year.

Growl has 2.034 million downloads as of 2016 I think. Not enough for a certification, but 2 million for a 2013 is really good. I'll have to look up its streams if they're available.

D4 has both 100 million streams and 2.5M downloads. In time, I think it could hit 200M streams. It even re-charted on Gaon Digital last year.

Data-wise, D4 is a much bigger song in Korea. It has Growl beat in streams, downloads, Melon ULs, Genie ULs, weeks in the top 100, etc. despite being almost 5 years younger. Cultural impact? I'm not a South Korean, so idk.
