I like that they are challenging themselves and high quality songs are coming out of the process!
Interesting to know that Wonpy is an optimist. I don't think it is so much ignoring the "bad" but choosing to focus more on the "good". When you keep hope alive within yourself and focus more on the "good", you can eventually make it through anything and inspire others too. That's a great bi-directional feedback loop the Day6 guys have with MDs. Optimism and pessimism are habits in your thinking that can support or sabotage yourself in your journey.
I thought it was interesting that the interviewer intrepreted "Pop-Rock styled Funk" as "’90s East Coast Hip-Hop". She must be referencing the "Boom Bap" style of Hip-Hop. Even on the "jazzier" side of Boom Bap, like Gangstarr (Guru from the group had 4 volumes of music named "Jazzmatazz") and Diggable Planets, the groove is similar but a few levels deeper and the beats hit a lot harder.
Fascinating to analyze how others see things differently.
