Rumor that Red Velvet will renew their contract in the 3rd quarter

  • are contracts 7 or 10 years because there are rumors that if you promote overseas sm can extend it to 3 years more and Jessica mentioned in her book

every group since 2013 is on a 7 year contract, but before that it was 10 years but then the government made the idol companies change it. That's why EXO (debuting 2012) still hasn't gone through negotiations but BTS (2013) already has and Red Velvet (2014) currently are.

  • It's been standardised to a 7-year contract by the government, but I think SM tends to get around it and attach a 3-year extension to the 7 years to get their usual 10 years out of their artists. Red Velvet would almost definitely "renew" for 3 years to get the full 10 year contract. And SM company stans will say it's because SM treats them so well that they voluntarily choose to renew after their first contract. No one is allowed to leave before 10 years are up without a lawsuit or a dismissal.

This is interesting. Why are people always making exceptions when it comes to SM? So for all other companies the 7 year rule applies, except for SM where they have lifelong slave contracts or such? I mean, really?

Do people hate SM that much that they abandon all common sense and logic to start up all those fake news narratives all the time?

It's not just extending their contract up to 10 years that you see SM artists do:

5 SNSD members are in their 14th year after debut and still with SM

Super Junior are in their 16th year after debut

TVXQ in their 18th year at SM

    Boa in her 21th year

SHINee in their 12th year after debut

What do you have to say about all those people extending their contracts far beyond that supposedly 10th year? Or will you ignore those, act like all those artists don't exist, and simply focus on that fake news narrative that SM artists only stay with SM because their supposedly lifelong slave contract doesn't allow them to leave?

As for Red Velvet, I don't expect any of them to leave soon - however much haters and other-group stans would love that to happen or will claim they're forced to stay if none of them leave this year - but I guess we'll see.

edit: disappointing, but as I expected: SM antis, hardcore JYP stans like in this thread and other other-company stans are always quick to shade and imply that SM artists only stay becore they're forced to stay 10 years bc of alleged, mysterious slave contracts - but as soon as you point towards the many, many SM artists - far more artists than any other company - that have stayed with SM for 10-15 years and more, they shut up, pretend they haven't read your post and 'forget' about the many artists that have stuck with SM beyond 10+ years.

And the next discussion they'll once again bring up 'enforced slave contracts' etc, conveniently ignoring all the SM artists that have renewed their contracts multiple times X/

  • To be honest I don’t see why they won’t? Obviously if there’s conflict or issues internally than that’s a different story but from what we’ve seen on the outside I think SM has treated them well.

I think people forget before their hiatus they had 2-3 comebacks a year, the members had tv show appearances, OST’s, CF, dramas, brand deals etc.. their hiatus started because Wendy was injured and then had to continue with Irenes incident. SM wouldn’t risk a RV comeback at the beginning of the year when all the bullying accusations were spreading, that would be dumb.

This past year Wendy was healthy enough to release a solo album and had tv show appearances, Joy released a solo album, has brand deals and variety show appearances and a new drama, Yeri has some acting gigs and had a little show. I’m pretty sure Seulgi will also debut solo sometime this year or next, but she also now has a show and has gotten quite a few brand deals. And Irene has been reflecting since her incident.

I don’t know any group where all members get that many opportunities. If you debut with SM they will push you and find gigs for you…most of the time haha
