Obviously true female empowerment doesn’t really exist in kpop due to the business culture which oppresses women, despite some improvements. But which girl group comes closer to it?
The first thing is to define empowerment. According to UrbanDictionary, Empowered means:
give (someone) the authority or power to do something.
So basically being able to act on your own. GIDLE comes to mind. SISTAR also, I guess. They seemed more free from the shackles of girl group expectations.
The best examples would be: (G)I-DLE; Mamamoo; Dreamcatcher
At least until a certain point anyway.
I think almost every gg can fit in this lol but imo the embodiment of female empowerment is brown eyed girls and 2ne1
It really depends on individual taste. One woman can feel empowered listening to aoa instead of beg and thats perfectly fine.
Brown Eyed Girls and particularly Ga-in with her solos immediately came to mind.
i think any female artist, regardless of concept or lyrics, can give themselves and their female fans a sense of empowerment by being a positive role model for women and singing the songs that they like.
