No shade but bts & twice Cant speak english why?
-
-
bc its not a must to be fluent in english
-
do they have to be fluent?
-
I've been watching anime for 15 years yet I can't speak Japanese. Explain.
-
-
You don't have to be fluent in English to be a KPOP idol. It's also not a required class in trainee school from what I've heard. The only required language classes in most companies for trainees is Japanese and Korean if you're not fluent.
-
There aren't many english speakers in korea--- and getting rid of an accent means talking to a lot of those without accent very regularly. Plus, even those who speak english as they were little pick up an accent while they are in korea so its really hard to do the opposite.
-
Because English is not a requirement
Now if they didn't speak Korean that would be a serious problem
-
they don't have to be fluent kpop is supposed to be in Korean anyways.
-
Stan my english fluent queen

English is not a requirement in K-pop, nor is it a must to be fluent either.

Well well. I know some words here and there and I start talking to my family like: arigato kkkkk my family looks at me like: kkkkkk
-
Oh, I thought we were talking about Kpop, as in Korean pop.
Silly me.
-
Obviously it’s a bonus for them if they can get by in English if they want to promote to English speaking countries, but it’s weird the way English speakers tend to assume that anyone outside of an English speaking country should be trying to learn English. Arrogant too.
-
They live in Korea, speak Korean 99% of the time, they don't really have much profit for putting all that hard work in just to say one simple, Hi, in an interview.
Also, BTS's english has got a lot better, if you watch interviews from 2015 or something, then now, you can tell they understand what the interviewer says easier and they can aso answer in english better. Jungkook and Jimin especially, have gotten a lot better
-
Why don’t you speak Korean fluently?
-
If they're singing a Kpop song with English thrown in there (Korglish), i dont mind the accents too much. This is literally how Koreans talk in everyday life, mixing Korean and English, and changing English pronunciations to fit Korean the language. I still get annoyed at times at certain jarring pronunications (eg the way Dami says "frick" instead of "freak" in Scream or how Nayeon pronounces "it" in More and More) but i deal with it.
It's different if you're marketing an English song at an English audience. This is where it goes from mild annoyance to outright cringefest. If you're going to market an English to an English speaking country, you cant be butchering the pronunciation so much that the song becomes almost unintelligible.
Imagine Taylor Swift going to Mexico to promote a Spanish song she wrote and then completely butchering the pronunciation - she would be getting SO MUCH SHADE for it, some Spanish speakers might even take it as an insult that the girl couldnt be bothered to learn how to pronounce the Spanish words correctly.
-
because they’re korean…?
you listen to kpop why aren’t you fluent in korean?

It doesn't really matter.
Everyone knows 'Baby, Hit me one more time' by Britney Spears which was actually supposed to be 'Baby, hit me up' ( as in, call me ) but was written by people who could barely speak coherent english. The entire US pop industry is full of songs written by north europeans who didn't care about writing lyrics with any kind of meaning.
Also if we're talking about spanish song... JB didn't even know Despacito's lyrics and yet he is the one who made it #1 on BB.

LOL, not you acting BTS didn't make a huge effort to get the English pronunciation right when they've spoken at length about it. You'll say anything at this point to try to find an angle to drag them. It's sad this this seems to be such a priority for you.

You are a kpop fan, do you speak fluent hangul?
-
WELL kpop fans are around the world... lets say a reporter ask a question english and they sang in english but cant speak it lol
-

im not a celebrity tho

-
its like me i will starting singing Spanish but i cant speak it lol its wrong
-
That’s the dumbest thing to worry about. Even native English speakers pronounce the words differently based on where they are from and the dialects they use. Non native speakers speaking English with a different pronunciation is not something that needs to be bitched about.
Many non native English speakers live in English countries speaking the same way and making a living.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. As long as one can understand and vibe it’s enough.
-

Most people around the world don't speak clear english.
Even people from english-speaking countries, lol.

Their English interviewers are a lot more accommodating than you are. They accept answers in Korean and translate them! Seems to working out ok?
-

LOL, you say no shade in your OP, but now it comes out that you think it's wrong to sing in a language you aren't fluent in. I think this shows that you're the one with the issue... not Twice or BTS.
-
okay case closed didn't know it will go that deep
-
-
im not a celebrity tho
Still, you are a kpop fan. Just like you don't need to speak Korean to enjoy Korean music, you don't need to speak the language of the country you have audience in that isn't your home country to perform or do something in that country. Should Dua Lipa need to learn to speak Korean before doing concerts and performing in Korea? No. She already has a fanbase their and those fans probably don't care if Dua does not speak Korean.
The same thing with BTS. Armys are satisfied with only RM speaking english and Onces have no problem too. You have to remember that these idols never had professional classes in English during their training period. And you can't expect everyone to have a huge IQ like RM and learn English from watching a tv show.
-
The way this entire thread knows Korean and English are two very different languages and that English isn’t the main language in Korea EXCEPT OP
-

Thank you! English isn't the only language in the world yall. Even if I live in the U.S I still speak my mother language. Should I expect BTS and Twice to speak Malayalam now?
-

lol i'm not intentionally trying to drag them, i'm being honest about how i felt when i heard Dynamite. It just made me wince and cringe. I've also already said that Butter was much better and showed improvement when it comes to their pronunciation.
-
Because English isn't really a requirement to be a kpop idol and I do think accents are all beautiful even English speaking countries have them. There is so many English speaking singers and rappers I don't even understand what are saying in their songs and I don't think a lot of people care about that honestly unless it's a Kpop group or alike.
-
I live in the U.S and i had no problem with Dynamite's pronunciation. Nor did the non Armys that listened to it. So certainly it wasn't a huge problem. Also you have dragged them multiple times.
-
Yeah sure. As if we haven't seen enough from you.

Wut? Are you saying i'm just a BTS hater?
Hmm...let's see.
I've talked about BTS being genuinely good people like 100000x times. I've mentioned how their chemistry and brotherhood seem real and genuine, not faked.
I've mentioned how much i love Mic Drop, Magic Shop and BWL. I've spammed the Magic Shop live Japanese performance more times than i can count. I've called their ballads the best boy ballads in the business.
I've mentioned my admiration for JK and RM too many times to count. I've referred to JK as the Golden Maknae and RM as an irreplaceable English Ambassador and leader.
So let me ask you...assuming you're a BTS fan...how many times have you praised Blackpink? Exo? Or any other rival group? How many Army on here have said anything remotely as positive and appreciative about Blackpink or EXO or BB as the things i've repeatedly said about BTS?
