Why is the kingdom such a big deal?

It's bloody war!

The show is a competition from mnet of already established groups. They already did a gg version

And a show for groups without a win where the champion (the boyz) moved on to Kingdom

People may not want their groups to join because mnet is absolute trash

ateez are joining and it makes me so happy. it might make them gain more fans in korea, and we'll also see them cover other group's songs. MORE CONTENT AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Can somebody tell me what exactly Kindom is ?

It's Mnet show where 6 artists including kpop groups and soloists competing for several rounds. Kinda performance based. It's male version of Queendom! It is good opportunity for above groups to get recognition in Korea. But fanwars, Mnet's evil editing might make things worse.

Look at Queendom, it's quite a cool concept. Good for exposing faves and lots of impressive stages. Did wonders for OMG and GIDLE.

it enabled a lot of groups who participated to gain a lot more support in korea (some examples would be OhMyGirl or The Boyz). This is why fans of boygroups who are mainly popular internationally like SKZ or Ateez want their fave to participate so that they can start thriving in korea too

even RTK,the sub show of Kingdom series manage to make The Boyz went from not charting at all to peak at TOP 10 Melon old chart. OneUs and VeriVery all break their own record after RTK . Also after what happen to OMG and Gidle, King/Queendom really prove their. credibilty as the current top idol reality show

On the positive side, it can bring exposure although bg audience might be lesser than for ggs but it helped the Boyz so maybe it could benefit them a lot. With the addition of ikon and if they get BtoB, it could work, we'll see

On the negative side, it's very tiring, it's MNET and it will oppose fandoms which is always a mess.

I hope Astro joins. I’d totally watch that.
