I'm back with another existential question. Or something like that.

I don't know how long you all have been K-Pop fans (certainly only a handful have been in this rabbit hole as long or longer than me), but I'm curious what made you decide to stick around and what keeps you coming back for more.

I guess I'll put some thought and effort into listing out some potential reasons why in poll format.

I think I set this up so that you can pick as many of the options as you want. If not, oh well. Skill issue.

  • My group is extremely extremely active. They're constantly outputting music. Once they slow down I'll probably not pay attention to kpop as much.

  • Tbh just my favs at this point. Almost all my interest is in one group, or things regarding/close to them. My interest was fizzling out before SKZ. But I'll vote for music as well, because even if SKZ disappeared I'd probably still check up on some acts with discographies I like.

I'm not sure I'd be an active fan if not for NewJeans debuting the same year Mamamoo stopped promoting actively as a group

Now there are multiple groups I either casually follow and/or would pay money to see, so I'd likely stick around regardless of my favs

    For now

For me I think I'd just check on some groups, but not be much of an active kpop fan in the sense of knowing what's going on in kpop in general, new groups, drama, etc. It'd be more just very casual listening, as the other groups I like don't pull me in much. I doubt I'd be a part of the kpop community at large. Especially with boring years like this..

  • Although Lee Jieun ceased to be a relevant force in KPop in this May, I would like to see where the journey of KPop ends. Will it be a Waterloo? Or will it be some kind of negotiated peace? I would like to see that.

  • I got into kpop because it filled a void that is missing in the western music industry. Kpop provides you with more access to artists, and I think that's one of the hooks. Usually in the western music industry artist releases a couple of singles and make a few social media posts and that's it. With Kpop there's constant updates and it's always moving. I think the speed of kpop does ruin some of the quality because of how fast paced everything is but it still provides quality entertainment.

I never thought I would become a kpop fan, but I mainly stayed for my favorites. Jihyo and Lisa made me become a long-term fan because watching them perform was like magic to me. I later discovered other acts like CLC, WJSN, Dreamcatcher, Red Velve, Oh My Girl, and a few others. It was a bit rocky experiencing a group I followed disband but I later got used to it.

Unsure where my kpop fandom takes me. I think I became a stronger fan during the pandemic and needed some content due to being spirituality down. Watching Idle's growth from the jump made me stick around longer. Then made me realize it's rewarding to see a group's growth. I am happy to see the growth in Minne and Miyeon. Hopefully there's other groups that gives me that joy. At the moment, Le Sserafim is the group that gave me the same feeling as Idle. Hopefully other groups gives me that feeling and If there isn't, then it is what it is.

Lastly, I enjoy the music because it fills a void that's missing with pop music. I thought recent groups like NewJeans, Triples, Nmixx, artms and a few others provided something unique that's not replicated in other scenes. So, as long as kpop is able to provide quality content, then I am here even if I don't get attached to a group.

  • Definitely, DEFINITELY the charts and numbers.

Oh man, those charts and numbers make me feel soooo good.

Soooooo happy and overjoyed when I see numbers I like.

I forgot what my faves music sounds like or what the members look like, but man, when I see those big numbers, it just DOES IT FOR ME!

  • Charts are becoming new [bts content] lol

  • Music, MVs, and the groups I love. I really enjoy the experience and rollout of comebacks, it always feels so exciting when the group you love is having a comeback. The concept photos and teasers leading up to it, waiting up til the AM for the release, and watching all the performances in the following weeks. I still enjoy it so much even after experiencing so many.
