With SM mastermind Minheejin sabotaging Hybe's three GGs, a power vacuum has existed for over a year which SM was clearly happy to fill with Aespa who has dominated the past year. But just like how Aespa ended 3rd Gen with Next Level in 2021, the circle of life has come around again and this time, it is 4th gen Aespa fighting for their crown and facing their biggest threat yet - the first real Korean 5th gen group, Mayday.

While everyone and their mother were claiming that literal 2023 flop groups like KIOF and Baemon were somehow the start of 5th gen, I've long argued that 5th gen hasnt started. That those groups plus Heart, Illit, Kiii, Izna, Moew were just 4.75 gen groups.

And now, i might be proven right. Now, we're finally seeing the potential for something truly revolutionary, a cultural reset just like how NJ changed the course of Kpop in 2022. We already saw a hint of it with the rise of Katseye, a truly multicultural Kpop group making waves. If Mayday defeats Aespa and ends 4th gen as we know it, it will confirm the truth - 5th gen has FINALLY STARTED, led by a multicultural group on one hand and a coed group on the other.

Exciting times for most Kpop fans. We were due for a cultural reset, starting with cutesy Twice in 2015, girlcrush BP in 2018, NJ in 2022, and now this.

It’s gonna be fun, but I think the defenders of 4th gen (Aespa) are a lot stronger than the defenders of 3rd gen (Twice) were in 2021 going up against Next Level. I expect Aespa to have the biggest gg hit of the year with this.

I really like Allday Project too, so as said, it’s gonna be fun to watch.

Source Music held auditions earlier this year to find girls for another group. My guess is that this group will be introduced no earlier than 2026.... at least this time they don't have to hurry because of financial issues, like they did with Le Sserafim.
