Kpop groups should stay away from the US for the time being

  • I am wondering how are they going to host the World Cup and the Olympics. I think this is one of the most dangerous grounds ever to host the event and that says a lot. I don't think they will have their act together by then. I feel for people of color that travel or live there because there's no guaranteed safety with that regime.

Yeah, I hope another country can take over.

Also, World Cup. Americans don't even care about male football.

Let a real football nation host it.

  • Honestly, I feel sorry for the many good folks in America. Kpop fans especially. I hope they get through this and rid them of these maniacs that are sitting in the White House. If koreans can do it, so can americans too.

  • FYI, taking away our toys won't do anything to punish our leaders. Trump doesn't care about any of this. And you're kidding yourselves if you think it's gotten bad enough that we're unable to host major events. The last World Cup was in Qatar for god's sake, and Russia before that, so let's not pretend that event actually has standards. It doesn't.

Yeah, I hope another country can take over.

We care plenty about male football... just not male soccer. 8o

  • dam is this really how non americans see it lol

We have issues for sure, but this forum has always had anti-American sentiment, long before Trump was even elected. They're just hiding behind that convenient excuse. And I bet half the people saying stuff like this wouldn't tell us where they're from, lest they're reveal it's not some heavenly utopia.

I guess I'm just 1 person but saying that US is too unsafe to host the World Cup or even travel to is grossly exaggerated. Just interesting to see how wildly different outside perspective can be.

So dramatic. My soccer comments were just joking around. I thought you were too.

Anyway, it's the current administration insulting people and even making threats at other country's sovereignity. And those are countries that have been USA allies for a long time.

There have been reports about border control being very quite rough.

So, I know some people stay away because of that.

Lots of Canadians are staying away, but that is more out of anger against the Trump's comments regarding their sovereignity. No country would take anything like that lightly.

I don't think the USA is unsafe about what is going on this weekend in particular.

  • Never been to England, mate?

Anyway, Germany did a great job at Euros last year and the atmospere was amazing. Maybe Germany can take over.

I know they mostly call it football, I'm just taking the piss. Whenever a Brit mocks us for calling it soccer, I remind them it's a British term. We didn't come up with it, they did. We're also not the only country to call it that.

Like I said before, regardless of what anyone thinks of the situation here, the World Cup has no standards. They're not reconsidering anything.

Dramatic? I've probably made the least dramatic posts in this thread. Everyone else is exaggerating the current situation. Yes, Trump is a complete twat who needs to go, but we're not on the verge of a societal collapse... yet.

  • Just stay away from the shit hole liberal cities and you wouldn't know anything about those riots.

Ahh yes, the "shit holes" that keep the economy going. Yeah, you definitely have to live in LA to know about the riots there, because rural backwaters don't have television sets, indoor plumbing or any other modern technology.

Then we're on the same page.

I don't think this is societal collapse.

I do think it's another step towards tyranny.

The World Cup thing for me is not just about the USA>

It's usually more fun to me in countries that have a long history of loving football ;-), so you'll see all the fans enjoying it. Also doesn't help that the USA is not near any countries that are mad about football, apart from Mexico, so it's harder for the football fans to go and dance in the street.

Wasn't much a fan of the Qatar World Cup either.

Your ladies are great at football, though.

  • I really can't say for sure one way or the other, and it's perfectly valid to be upset with Trump but I do feel that people over exaggerate how "bad" America is right now.

  • I really can't say for sure one way or the other, and it's perfectly valid to be upset with Trump but I do feel that people over exaggerate how "bad" America is right now.

A lot of Americans are saying it's bad online and even ones I've met abroad.

However, I don't think the average American is constantly in some kind of street fight.

Have seen lots of peaceful protests lately on social media that looked like people peacefully coming together and even having fun.

Please note that a lot of people in other countries normally live their lives, just like Americans do. They are not constantly thinking the USA=DANGEROUS OMG!, but think more about the groceries they have to buy or their annoying co-worker etc.

What I do see from American conservatives online is that they are quite hostile online to all kinds of countries, in the same vein as Trump and Vance are and that often results in a response. I do understand why Canadians are angry, and the main reason for anger there seems to be the threat against sovereignity, not the tariffs.

Please note that a lot more people are positive to Americans than Americans sometimes think.

A lot of American culture and celebrities are beloved all over the world and normally many people want to visit the US, just like Kpop fans want to visit Korea, to go to see locations they have seen on tv or just to go to Disney World etc.

It's less now because of the hostile language from the administration towards other countries, but I'm sure that will return again when someone more normal and less hostile is in the White House.

  • A lot of Americans are saying it's bad online and even ones I've met abroad.

Yea a lot of Americans exaggerate how bad it is. Liberals are no better than conservatives in some ways, and they are not above over exaggerating the state of the country because their team lost. We are not in 1930's Nazi Germany even though plenty of people compare it to that. I'm not gonna claim to speak for everyone but I just don't think the average American (POC or not) is living in constant fear or danger. And other than tighter border control, I don't think the average tourist has anything to fear either. In the same vein as what you said, most of us are just living our lives the same way we were a year ago, worried about work and bills.

Anyways that's just the perspective of 1 average American :pepe-shrug:

  • kinda weird to bring up politics on a kpop board but ok

as an american i can tell you that it isn't bad at all. this had happened before and every time it is just bored people who want to feel like theyre doing something important or people who simply want to freak out in the streets. theyll get sick of it soon enough.

obviously it looks bad because the news is filming and showing the worst parts. you forget how large america is. barely anywhere is actually doing this

  • Some of you are just delusional.

I live in the states - it's the South and in a suburb of a large city (Hint: I don't pay income taxes). Life couldn't be better. I have a great job, wonderful family. I live in a diverse culture. Friendly people. Very low crime rate. Great school/educational system. I go to sporting events, concerts, eat out at nice restaurants - always feel safe.

We're about to leave for holiday/vacation where I'll be on a nice beach for 5 days. In Florida - which is in the U.S. :-)

This board thrives on negativity and the "woe is me" attitude. It's sad....

Yeah, it's pretty weird that all the peaceful protests are rarely shown this much.

Most Americans know how to peacefully protest and there have been lots of those.

Now that this is happening, it's suddenly all over the news. Trump's behavior also doesn't help.

If more positive news would be shared and not just always the negative stuff, people would be far less angry with each other all the time.

  • Yeah, I hope another country can take over.

Also, World Cup. Americans don't even care about male football.

It's shared between US, Canada, and Mexico. It would be too hard for them to lose the World Cup because this is pre-planned years ago and would be hard to find venues in short notice.

I don't think anything bad would happen because they most likely would make sure everything runs smoothly for the Olympics and World Cup. However, you never know what can happen with the US. They already made threats about annexing my country.

  • America is huge. Monstrous in size. Unless youre from China, Russia, etc, its impossible to grasp how big the country is. What's happening in LA is literally a few square blocks of violence sprinkled in a few places throughout the ginormous city. Like it's 85 degrees and absolutely quiet and beautiful for me right now, looking out over at the mountains and even getting a peek of the ocean.

The one thing that is real for visitors is immigration over enforcement at airports. That is far more troubling than a few riots for those wanting to visit here.

  • I really can't say for sure one way or the other, and it's perfectly valid to be upset with Trump but I do feel that people over exaggerate how "bad" America is right now.

It is actively dangerous for Latinos, Arab/Middle Eastern people, immigrants (whether they are here legally or not), and queer people (especially if they are visibly trans or present in ways that are androgynous). Hell, even students are being targeted on some major campuses.

This is my major concern. I visited the US recently and they were asking for my phone. We don't know what crazy things they can do to people visiting.

Border control is kind of crazy. Even Yuki Tsunoda, the forma 1 driver was almost sent back home before the LA race cause they were not buying his visa. And were not willing to check the news.

Many hungarian tourists had similar stories. I know it because it made news. I don't have personal experience though. Just their stories fit yours.

to be fair, he's joked about in the past where he's been stopped by security guards at venues because he doesn't look an F1 driver (he's 5'3").
