[instiz] THEY SAY THAT K-POP IS GRADUALLY BECOMING SOME "WTF" THING

  • Is it true...?

I heard more and more kids these days aren't interested in idols anymore

Back in my day, there was always at least one kid at school who liked an idol

    1. It's true that Koreans are less interested in idols

    2. I can see that it's been a while since they lost their appeal with the general public

    3. It's true

    4. ㅇㅇㅇ You're right. There are so many other things to like now, so there's no real reason to stick to K-pop

    5. Only the kids who like K-pop continue to like it

    6. A market survey conducted overseas said that K-pop already peaked in 2023 and now it's only going to go downhill

    7. There are fewer new fans these days because there are so many other things to like, like YouTubers and other content creators. The pie is getting split into smaller pieces

    8. After companies started sending idols on tours overseas, they have been doing less promotions in Korea too. They would only perform for two weeks on music shows even if they make a comeback so what is there to stan? Their only reason to release albums is also to go on tours overseas and they don't care about their performance in the charts anymore

    9. I think it's trueㅠ I feel like idols were popular with the general public only up to the 3rd gen..? It's true that after the 4th gen, I started to feel like "wtf is this?"

    10. This was said 5 years ago as well and I still think that it's true. There are so many other people/things to be a fan of other than idols

  • I can't comment on the situation of k-fans, but kpop is still alive internationally. If anything, it is noticable how much movie tracks and series use kpop songs. My mother even bopped to kpop songs yesterday while watching Despicable me 4, I found it a little funny how easy to like some of the kpop songs if you don't know it's kpop and don't have the preconception that it must be cringe to like them. But it is a fact that the fame of Bts and Bp is not easily reachable by others, kpop still seems to be subculture for most. Some kpop groups tried to tour internationally without having an audience, that was a bad decision. Some groups and idols don't go far enough to tour *cough Central-Eastern-Europe cough* even though they have the popularity and audience. But kpop is both small and big, I don't think one can speak generally on it's popularity, I only can speak on it regarding this or that groups. Companies do make the mistake of think about this like the success or failure of the whole industry, but IMO it's just not working like that.

  • not true

it's like people get older lose interest in it

their fav group disband, fall out of charts in Korea or something like that

but meanwhile little 8-10 year old kids be vibin to kpop songs lol

  • like I said on the other sites, Kpop declining in Korea is natural because of low birth and companies keeps on debuting new groups. So late 4th & new gen debutants will find it very hard to gaining national popularity. Which means they need to look at other market to expand because Koreans usually only stanning 1 group and with their populations keeps declining its very hard to replicating the popularity of their seniors (who's gonna be their fans?)

Japan: their have their own market and it's big + they got low birth problem + 312432 companies already debuting japanese members so the effect it's already dispersing

US: the have their own market and it's the biggest market

China: THAAD and cultural clash with Koreans

which means the only one big market left is SEA in particular Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand (based on the statistics), so the answer should be debuting members from either these 3 countries to expand the fanbase. YG already knew about this and SM is taking notes with debuting Indonesian member

  • it's like people get older lose interest in it

Based on my participation on Idol Champ, older fans are very loyal (I don't consider "loyalty" to be a 100% positive trait btw. So much "loyalty" exhibited in public and online nowadays is toxic in the name of "support" of whoever supporters follow. Not just in kpop. For example: Politics.)

Some acts on IC's monthly chart right now: 2AM, god, FTISLAND, 2PM, EXO, SuJu, SNSD, SHINee, BTOB.

Too many groups got wealthy off the kpop boom during 2nd and 3rd gen and now don't have to disband even after leaving their label because they can afford to invest in themselves. Their fans grow older and usually get a bigger income with age. Older groups' fans have more money behind them. I mean, a rookie solo artist with 20 years of idol experience won Music Bank earlier this year.

Another issue is oversaturation. Oversaturation somehow causes people to start ignoring.
