We're 2 days away from its 7 year anniversary. Which is CRAZY to me. Where the hell did that time go?

But I feel sorry for K-Pop fans who didn't get to experience the Bboom Bboom phenomenon in real time

Look at the views on the MV, from what was a complete nugu girl group. Absolutely NOBODY saw that bop coming, and I remember the very moment the song caught fire and went viral.

Too bad their management failed them spectacularly, with some assistance from very toxic fans of other groups

But this song will live on as an instant classic regardless.

If you've never seen it performed live, do yourself a favor, because Momoland till this day had the absolutely most hilariously unhinged fans and fanchants I've ever heard

2018 really was one of the best years in K-Pop ever

  • Another reason why 2018 was one of the best, most pivotal years for K-pop. Some people don't understand.

    Just to sum it up:

    • I really don't know why AKP doesn't talk about "DDU-DU DDU-DU," but that song catapulted BLACKPINK into the household name that we know today. Maybe AKP folks only care about charts and completely disregard the creative impact that song had. It was beyond anything as superficial as numbers. If it weren't for that song, the rest wouldn't have happened.
    • BTS followed up their "DNA" success with "Fake Love." People do not understand how groundbreaking that was.
    • Soloists Sunmi and Chungha were on top of their game
    • The beginning of IZ*ONE
    • Jennie dropped her first solo song
    • WINNER was active and thriving. Mino had his solo debut.
    • "Love Scenario" by iKON
    • EXO released "Love Shot"
    • Red Velvet dropped "Bad Boy"
    • "Starry Night" by MAMAMOO. Yama-Chan You better remember how amazing this era was.

It was a pivotal time because it marked the consolidation of 3rd gen. So much more happened that year.

  • In a way, 2018 produced 4th gen as we know it today. IZ*ONE started in 2018. Needless to say, the IZ*ONE members took over 4th gen.

Also, Min Heejin left SM at the end of 2018. Maybe NewJeans wouldn't exist as we know it today if it weren't for this. thebadguy  Adelaidestevsn  Yama-Chan

This is what I mean by 2018 being a pivotal year.

We need to talk about stuff like this instead of charts. Numbers alone can't measure impact; that's a disservice to the art. It's more about historical timelines that show the bigger picture.

  • Facts. Remember "Starry Night" by MAMAMOO?

I feel like AKP has recency bias and completely ignores 2018.

Of course I do. It was my favorite MAMAMOO era; their Four Seasons project.

I even made a video about it.

I died from cringe inside watching it back all these years later, but you best believe I enjoyed every moment of that era

You wouldn't say this had you been around for GREAT!

a group of girls are dancing in front of a sign that says great .

  • The song that changed everything for BLACKPINK

will probably always be my favorite from them and in kpop.

Boom Boom is great, I'm pretty sure it was the first non BP kpop song I listened to. But since you brought up 2018, D4 needs to be mentioned as well. Also What Is Love and DTNA from Twice, and Bad Boy from Red Velvet, just to name some of my favorites. Dam 2018 really was stacked.

Yeah but everybody saw those coming, since those three (AND DON'T FORGET MAMAMOO WITH STARRY NIGHT AND EGOTISTICAL) were obviously top girl groups.

Momoland came out of left field from the top turnbuckle and shook everybody with Bboom Bboom. We all just watched the video and it's as if the entire K-Pop community and industry decided it was an absolute bop and it just took off.

Even Twice had Bboom Bboom Fever

  • I couldn't forget Starry Night, my favorite mamamoo song and MV is one of my favorites, so simple yet perfect. A shame momoland are a one hit wonder for me, never really liked anything else I've heard of theirs.

I mean, I still liked Bam. Just not nearly as much as Bboom Bboom.

It is a shame their company couldn't handle their breakout success at all. We all speculated at the time that the company would find a way to squander the opportunity, and that absolutely ended up happening. The bullying from certain fandoms didn't help either.

But Bboom Bboom is forever. I'm glad I got to see it live at KCON LA 2019 at least.

  • 2018 was also my first exposure to 3rd gen having been introduced to BP & Twice thru my friends. Kpop really had a chokehold on everyone that year, I remember people were super hyped and anticipated every new release. Even for someone like me who was out of the loop, it was hard to ignore how much a phenomenon 2018 really was

  • how could you not know what song it would be?!?!?

boom boom was amazing and it really got me so much more into kpop at the time

i love momoland so much and wish they couldve gotten what the deserved and had more success

it felt like a dream come true when i got to see both them and izone perform at kcon la

really i cant believe its been so long since 2018, what an amazing year

  • I find it playing in most unexpected places.

Recently in an Arcade Dance game in American Midwest suburb, so checked the song list, Bboom Bboom was the only Kpop song.
