  • Is it chart manipulation because someone is being paid to process a program that continuously stream? What if there is a fan who have 10 computers/phones or laptops, and they stream the artist's songs on loop? Multiply that fan by the fandom amount, or if they rent out a PC bang and stream those songs all day, would that also considered manipulation?

Do we draw the line because there is money involved or because a program was used, or is it because the person is related to the artists (same company)?

Fandom streaming, using multiple devices etc is chart manipulation as well as the end result is the same regardless if a company pays a clickfarm for it or thousands of fans stream on five devices each 24/7: its outside of normal behavior and it ends up manipulating the charts. Fans tend to dislike saying it out loud tho and will argue against it as its somehow not manipulating the charts.

Now, one could still argue that one form of manipulation is worse than the other

Ah, my take on ABoredStan 's question was when it is of legal interest to prosecute. If the question was meant just generally, then I agree with your answer.

  • Hmmmmmm.....

2018 - 2019 about the time TWICE started falling off the charts and Nilo and Shaun were accused of sajaegi but nothing was found, though 1 had a 2017 release that suddenly overtook a TWICE comeback while the other had a B Side doing the same...

It was found at the time that there were a Chinese Unit that was manipulating charts during I think it was a KBS documentary.

    Anyway...

The massive problem is that Providers like Melon are well aware of this behavior but those people still have to pay subscription fees meaning Melon or other Providers aren't going to take any real action.

  • TBH, is anyone actually surprised?

Anyone who knows anything about the music industry knows that charts can be manipulated and often are.

This is prevalent in Western music as well, so not surprising here either. The only people who are genuinely shocked are probably success stans. And, that's mostly rooted in delusion.

And yes, Spotify can be manipulated too. Just so you know.

  • Yeah, Spotify is the easiest to manipulate and Spotify publicises that they do it - it’s perfectly legal! If you agree to take a lower royalty rate, they will give your song massive amounts of Autoplay and you can easily chart just through that.

  • People will only care if their faves or rivals of their faves get implicated. I could see SM/Kakao groups via Melon, Hybe groups since they have the most $$$, and YGE since YG has an ego the size of Jupiter. Cube dont have enough money tbh.

OTOH, I dont see JYP's stingy ass parting with a single penny, dude already said publicly he is happy with album sales and no, unlike "nonthinkers" who are spouting nonsense, JYP would never waste any of the company's money on faking album sales which is quite literally the dumbest thing a label could do not even JYP is stupid enough to do that.

  • Artists with organic success and with lesser financial ressources or who just don't want to do sajaegi are getting stepped on. Like Idle, Day 6, Bibi. Watch all these shady songs like Blue Sparke, Magnetic, that Qwer song or Sheesh overchart them and rob them of 1st place or their ranking in the top 10. And maybe the awards end year :cursing: . It's just so disrespectful to the artist but also to the public.

For example as of now, i honestly think Fate should be in the top 3 with Supernova and Spot, but there are like 3 songs above that i genuinly think are not more viral or popular with the public than Fate is.
