what is really lacking (other than good music) with NMIXX and BabyMonster

  • I think NMIXX's latest EP had some really good songs, but nobody is talking about them anymore and barely anyone noticed.

Even in all these fights about HYBE groups and god knows what else related to gen 4.5 and 5, I don't see them mentioned at all.

Namewise, I don't find them strong either. Nmixx is very bland and tells you nothing, while Baby Monster sounds childish to me.

Compare to a name like BlackPink. That pops and is memorable without being childish.

It's like they tried to do the contrast in the name again (baby vs monster, black vs pink), but it falls flat for me with BM.

I also find Illit a bland name. Le Sserafim just annoys me as I have no idea why it's called that and i can't care to remember the spelling. New Jeans is nice and a better name. Not quite as good a BlackPink (one of the best names in kpop history imo), but it stands out enough to be remembered.

  • Babymonster looks like is raising. I believe is matter of time for them to be in the top spots. Why are not there yet? I think YG sound doesnt work that well without Teddy. Other than that, they have everything to become big.

About Nmixx, i think have to be mostly with JYP incompetence.

About the girls, the only "problem" is that they are not that pretty, they are very nice ladies for sure, but i believe the other groups on top have prettier idols, and in kpop this aspect matters a lot, but i think is not the big issue.

The bigger problem is JYP. JYP cant make very popular music for girlgroups anymore. When others groups with good quality and good sound began to appear in the scene JYP just couldnt compete on top anymore. Twice start to lose relevance to other groups, ofc they have a big strong fandom so the hit was not that strong. That was not the case with Itzy, once a very popular group, now they just keep losing and losing relevance. JYP really fucked up with ITzy.
Now Nmixx. See, i believe JYP thought the mix concept it was going to hit hard. I mean, you look the MV for 0.0 and you can see they spend alot of money in that MV, not other JYP group have this budget for their debut. No other nmixx MV have this visual quality, JYP artistic direction didnt have the talent to pull a concept like this, they are not SM. Other mistake is the lack of a distintive sound and a strong concept. Yes, they mix different musical genres, but what is their sound, their concept? Dark, elegant, girlcrush, etc? they make 0.0 but later they make Dumb, young stupid and then Cool. Is so different that they feel like a different group sometimes.
The good news, looks like JYP is learning from their mistakes, the last album was really nice. The change in the songs are not that jarring. I believe if they keep that route they can bring more fans. Maybe they never will be on top with the other groups, but i believe they can be more popular. Now, they have to leave aside this thing of Kpop, the choreo thing. They have to act full live, make it an easy choreo and when one member is singing the others dance and they go like that. Their biggest assest is their voices. That with a live band and they will impress more people for sure. Too bad JYP is a damn cheap company.

Exactly the problem is not the group but the company. Out of all the big4, JYP is the company with the least relevancy especially in Korea, their only relevant group is day6 and mind you they’re not really a typical K-pop group.

A rebrand is needed, the GG have no identity and it’s shame since ITZY & Twice used to have strong concept now they throw whatever they have in their vault and expect to smash. Also the fact Twice declined in Korea affected Itzy & Nmixx. YG still has the Bp’s hype.

  • With Bm , maybe because they have to many foreing member? I think they only have 3 koreans right? I know Rami has good vocals but her visuals lacks, so Ahyeon seems the only reference for a korean member to gp.

The music was the problem with Nmixx and since there are other ggs with better songs they were overshadowed, i feel it's late for them.

If i have to guess the problem is Jyp, the old man have too much ego to realize he is taking bad decisions, and the company needs new ideas, new people. For what could see with other idols under JYP, the old man is very close mind about how he makes music. Sure, if your way of make thing works, why change it? But when the things dont work anymore is time to change.
I would like to think the old man learn, but then i see VCHA and i think, what is doing with this group? What is their target? Why they look so outdated, so cheap? Too bad for my faves.

  • Zero It Girls.

Nobody cares about vocals except jobless I fans on TW and trolls lol. Esp when the fans of these mid groups brag about their faves literally screaming into the mics as evidence of "amazing vocals."

    Nmixx has Sullyoon :/

Indeed, Kpop fans enthusiastically celebrate vocals for a short period, however, this excitement tends to fade within a month. It’s important to note that the majority of fans are drawn to Kpop not solely for the vocals, but for a combination of elements. These include the music itself, the visual aesthetics, the dynamic performances, and the innovative concepts that are a hallmark of the genre. These multifaceted aspects contribute to the enduring appeal of Kpop. ^^

  • JYP gave NMIXX a ridiculous song for their debut and they don't seem to know how to maximize their talents and potential.

They have three girls who can sing like this and they give to debut that song with all those screams? What a nonsense.

  • BM I'm sure they will pretty successful if they get some good songs, if the keep bring old boring BP songs I*m not too sure. NMIXX I don't think will not go anywhere if they don't suddenly make some big hit song. They are a combination of lacking in skills (voices), a bit generic and nog good enough songs. BM lacks mostly in the songs, much easier do find a quick fix to that problem. One problem is BM still needs to be in the shadow of BP.

  • the general public is a fickle creature

there's no such thing as "GP friendly music" anymore

every group tries to release "good" music - sometimes it hits other times it doesn't...

  • Baemon is rising rapidly..

I personally think being the junior to BP and the way YHS marketet them, they have gotten so much hates (since BP was widely hated by kpop fans) and that some blinks are not liking them. Also, most kpop fans either dont give chance to them or keep judging them using BP standards / associate them with BP.

When they kinda start promoting (Batter Up was predebut and had no promotion), they kinda show their charm and talents. So people gradually accept them as they go on.

This is probably the 2nd most organic growth YG groups have. Im happy for them
