Why are international fans always behind with the gen change?

There wasn't any interesting boygroup who debuted in the last 6 years for me. The day It happens, I might give a chance.

I think it's simply that trends pick up faster in country of origin, even for things with a worldwide fanbase.

Fans in country of origin get much more exposure, many more peers to hype and circulate things, easier access to physical merch (you can walk into a store on day of release and buy there and then, not wait for painfully slow shipping) and much easier word of mouth spread. Even if you include speed of internet.

It's the same for anime and manga. The stuff popular in Japan is always a few beats ahead of whats popular internationally.

Trends don't move as quickly in other countries and I think fans stick with artists/groups for much longer in general (compared to Korea). In the US, at least, kpop fans have been skewing a little older for a while, so if many fans are early 20s and older, they maybe aren't as interested in groups with younger members.

That's my guess.

You make sense as long as you're not claiming that these groups are 5th gen. Riize is SM's 4th gen BG, NCT was a 2016 group clearly still a 3rd gen group. Boy Next Door is 4th gen. TWS is Pledis' 4th gen BG after Seventeen which was obviously their 3rd gen BG.
