YG already confirmed they are 5th gen

They're debuting after RIIZE who is 5th gen, so their 5th gen. If they're 4th gen then that would mean they can transcend time, space and reality, to debut before Zerobaseone and Riize who are in the 5th gen already.

If your math checks, then they will be 4th Generation, unless YG keeps postponing their debut.

I prefer accepting them as 5th gen

Otherwise people will come saying a group from some flopped company started the gen, again

GGs are usually one or two years behind the BGs on the Generation time table.

Loosemble is just a reimplementation of some of Loona members so they are 3gen

The rest belong to 4th Gen.

If BND, RIIZE, ZB1 are 5th gen so are BM. Still they will have to co-exist with 4th gen for next few years. 4th gen is set overall but still not at their peak yet.

A change of gen should come with a relevant change in some situation of the Kpop market, people just feel in a rush to change the gen I have no idea why, I guess to be able to tweet their favs achievements to be the ''only ones of the gen''. Nothing has happened now to change the gen.

The 4th gen change was already rushed and it doesn't make sense in many situations. If we analyze deeper, a group probably shouldn't be in a gen just because of the debut date, it makes more sense to relate it with the moment they peak or have more impact (For example Iz*one should be a 3rd gen group in any logical situation, their peak was with Twice and BP and they had already disbanded when many of the relevant 4th gen groups didn't debut yet, but G-idle that debuted sooner fits the 4th gen because they've achieved more success in these last years).

All this would apply if people really cared about making a decent structure but the whole gens thing is mainly because of bragging rights.

So is this the breakdown?

1st Gen 1994 - 2002 = 9 Years

2nd Gen 2003 - 2011 = 9 years

3rd Gen 2012-2017 = 6 years

4th Gen 2018-2022 = 5 years

5th Gen 2023-2026? = 4 years?

just because thw groups or the company consider themselves 5th gen doesnt mean i will, imo thats just a marketing matter for them.

The end of 2nd gen was marked by rookie twice outdoing senior snsd and rookie bts/exo outdoing senior bigbang (the metrics are irrelevant); the end of 3rd gen (meaning every other group debuting after would be 4th gen) was marked by top groups bts and twice successors debuting at the same year: txt and itzy. what even is the defining event of the end of 4th gen? If there's no defining moment then it means theyre still 4th gen.

I believe 5th gen will rise only after all 4th gen are all established and thats far from happening.

Technically we are still in 4th gen. Maybe 4.5 lol. I personally think a gen is based on the length of the contract of the group that started the gen. The Boyz are a 4th gen group that debut in Dec of 2017. So 7 years from that is Dec of 2024.

The problem here is Mnet. Mnet started calling their Boys Planet group a 5th gen representative and everyone followed behind them instead of correcting them.

Lsfm and new jeans are 4th or 5th gen? because they are one year old ....it dosen't looks like they are part of the same gen as Itzy and TXT but also dosen't looks like they are 5th gen already
