I hope she'll have success with her solo career, it's so unfair to her she had to leave just before (G)I-dle had their big boost succes with 'Tomboy'.

I'm extremely sceptic about 95% and more of all K-pop 'scandals' and controversies, but this particular one regarding Soojin was especially unconvincing to me.

Just because she had a big fight with a (former) friend of hers, Soojin was suddenly a bully? And because the sister of that friend was jealous (and that friend had no spine to set things straight) she did her utmost to paint Soojin a bully by slandering her, saying she had smoked and the group she used to hang out with made some negative remarks? Seriously, wtf.

That was 1 of the flimsiest excuses for bullying I've ever heard and does a disservice to the whole actual, serious topic of bullying, putting it in a bad spotlight and transforming bullying cases into unjust witch hunts.

I agree 100%. Even if all her accusations are true well I mean how does that make her a bully. Didn't we all talk behind each other back and have fights with our friends in middle school ? Maybe it was just in my school but I don't know anybody who never did. It shouldn't end someone's career. Idk maybe there are some things we don't know about but with the informations that we have I find this whole situation really stupid and frustrating.

I'm so happy Soojin is returning to music and performing despite everything.

Sales are pretty good despite being canceled in Korea and being away for two years.

Not true. Plenty of female idols has school violence and attitude controversies and promote. The biggest examples that come to mind ITZY Lia and RV Irene. Not our fault CUBE dropped the ball with her and didn't handle her controversy properly. In this particular case it's not fair to blame everything on gender.

It disturbs me how judgemental people are with just rumors and hearsays. I do think people have the right to call out their bullies but then society has to hold back judgement without seeing cold hard proof amd a clear case. It's so easy to ruin careers with just making up situations. Even the G Dragon case is madness. People believe everything and every other day they change sides without care. I am not judging because I don't even understand korean. How would I know what the truth is? Madness. It's like the brawls in kindergarten when you have to choose one friend over another because someone just said so.

so no clearly when you compare how male idols and female idols are treated for the same rumors, it clearly show that it's not just a question of dropping the ball, but that idol are treated differently base on the gender of the idol

But hasn't this always been the case?

Oh, it's not as if male idols will always walk away scot-free from any scandal, bad behavior and misdemeanour. But usually, generally the issue has to be of a more serious, harmful nature for male idols to be impacted by it for a longer term, and the lighter controversies, the ones that often heavily negatively influence a girl idol's career and reputation, those hardly ever stick to the male idols in the same way.

But even so, hasn't this always been the case, not just in K-pop?

I have to think of the witch hunts in earlier, medieval times: even while in some cases men were victim too, the vast majority of victims were girls and women who were killed and burnt at the stakes for the merest accusations and grievances by people around them.

Or in more modern times in the previous century and early on this century, look at the difference how boys and girls are treated when they are (suspected of) having had sex with multiple partners: the guys are put on a pedestal and regarded as some great trophy hunters, but instead of that it's seen as a sign of empowerment and independence, girls are looked down upon and called 'slut', 'cheap' or worse for it.

Or look at how in some countries even nowadays it's girls and women, not the men, who are assaulted and even killed for adultery or even simply going their own way, away from their family.

The world and technology may have changed, but people themselves, their psychological core and instincts, those haven't changed and are still the same across all those centuries. It's hardwired and built into human nature, to be more judgmental and more intolerant towards girls/women in certain situations than towards men.

In those situations it takes empathy or a conscious effort - or culture change - to go against that built-in psychological and emotional hardwiring.
