this kind of music and image define what gidle are, as a group

  • To me it feels like Tomboys success came with the downside of Soyeon wanting to recreate the success with easier to listen, catchier songs which comes at the price of the quality they once brought to the table. Still like their songs nowadays but the diversity of their earlier discography will never be matched again I feel

  • Many things changed since HWAA. You cannot reasonably expect things to be frozen in time.

Yes, TOMBOY and its huge success happened, and it surely did impact the way Cube, Soyeon and the group approach the following comebacks. But also, Soojin left which may have changed the group's perception, even from within. And also, Minnie and Yuqi joined the producer line.

What I mean is, I'm confident some HWAA like demos exist in Soyeon's laptop; but these songs likely didn't match the latest concepts and themes the group chose to promote. And because Soyeon's tracks now only make for a third of the last albums, there's no room for them as random b-sides (for now).

  • They worked out in Nxde that sex sells, and now they are working it.

Composers hit a wall. Brave Bros rolled out hit after hit after hit, but after Brave Girls went viral, couldn't give them a good song. JYP too. In the early Twice years he wrote hit after hit for them, then there was a blackhole for a couple of years.

  • I prefer Idle's older songs slightly, but they simply weren't as successful.

The GP and album-buying fans clearly enjoy their newer stuff more then their older stuff, the results speak to themselves.

No-one was caring too much about Hann 1.0 with it's amazing lyrics and poetry influences, or Hwaa, or Lion as much. No-one was blowing up AKP and Twitter and Reddit with thousand vote posts about how good Hann's or Lion's lyrics were, because kpoppers didn't care, it wasn't getting them to #1 on Melon and Genie.

So their pivot makes total sense. Get that bag (G)I-DLE.
