How is it that no K-pop idols have been killed by fans yet?

  • There have been Western, English-speaking celebrities killed by fans or people at their events. Examples would be Christina Grimmie and that guy who was in the Beatles or something (I cannot remember his name. Oh right! John Lennon).

More here: https://nilefm.com/celebrity/a…ebrities-murdered-by-fans. The article was written in 2019. These are from all places not just the West.

    It lists:

Dimebag Darrell - killed in 2004 by Nathan Gale, an "extreme fan".

John Lennon - killed in 1980 by Mark David Chapman, a former Beatles fan who "turned against Lennon due to a religious conversion and Lennon's highly publicized 1966 remark about the Beatles being "more popular than Jesus."[14] . He had been considering killing other famous public figures too. [Can be considered a fan]

Suzanne Tamim - killed 2008 by Mohsen al-Sukkari, a hitman hired by Egyptian businessman Hisham Talaat Mostafa. Some sources say he was a romantic affair partner, others say his motive is unknown. [Most likely NOT KILLED BY A FAN]

Selena - killed 1995 by Yolanda Saldívar, "Saldívar had been the president of Selena's fan club and the manager of her boutiques, but she lost both positions a short time before the murder, when the singer's family discovered that she had been embezzling money from both organizations." It was "over financial differences". [Technically a fan, but pretty unusual circumstance]

Zikra - killed 2003. Most sources say by her husband, but Wikipedia says the murderer was not identified. [Most likely NOT KILLED BY A FAN]

Christina Grimmie - killed 2016 by Kevin James Loibl, said to be obsessed and infatuated with the singer.

Gianni Versace - killed 1997 by Andrew Cunnan. Cunnan had killed 4 other men prior but was said to be obsessed with the designer. [Can be considered a fan]

2pac - killed 1996, murderer never identified. [Probably NOT killed by a fan]

Notorious B.I.G. - killed 1997, murderer never found. [Probably NOT killed by a fan]

(All additional information from the article or Wikipedia)

So removing the ones with unidentified or non-fan murderers that is just 5 famous people who were killed by fans: Dimebag Darrell, Lennon, Selena, Grimmie, Versace.

I just googled to see if any J-pop idols were killed by fans. I found 1, Mayu Tomita (killed 2004). I am not sure if there are others or others documented only in Japanese.

I also googled "korean celebrities killed by fans" "korean actors killed by fans" "korean singers killed by fans". But could not find any murders of famous Korean people. It is possible there are some that are not documented or are only documented in the Korean language.

Why do you think no one has been killed by a fan yet? I know about the glue story and going to a fansign to slap someone story but those did not have murderous intent.

Edit: By the way I have read just the preface and ending of Perfect Blue, and I thought for sure there must be some real case that the book is based on. But I don't think there is.

Nothing comes up for "japanese actors killed by fans" or "japanese celebrities killed by fans" either. Or maybe there are cases not documented on the internet, or only documented in Japanese

  • don't give them ideas

Also there have been threats of shooting and bombing overseas concert venues by deranged individuals.

  • I like how your examples says mostly likely not a fan, could be a fan.

Those are all unconfirmed. There was a money, religion or sex angle to all of those cases.

Coincidentally, money, sex and religion are top reasons murder occurs in any situation.

I think your point is null

  • convos like this are really bad juju. we all know koreas crime stats and how "violent crime rates" there are generally very low. obviously thats discounting domestic violence and sexual assault, which are also highly underreported there. gun laws in koreo are stricter. its really that simple.

  • Due to very low violent crime rates here. But there hasn't been a lack of trying from tvxq yunho to car chases that have ended in crashes not too recent one got7 Jackson after the crash fans followed injured idol as he walked with the help of staff to an ambulance and later to the hospital. You'd think in a serious situation they would give them space so they can get immediate care they need? Nope🤡🤡🤡.

The possibility of a fan or anti fan killing a idol is never zero which is why I cringe everytime I see lax security or security guards NOT using enough force to keep fans away from them. All it takes is half a second for someone not at arms length to slip a knife passed you to your clients chest. Fuck fan sensibility and societal bs about force. Your job is to defend your client i expect you to do it 1000%

So true. I can't comprehend fans being able to bump into idols at airports etc. Never know what crazies are out there.

  • There's been some near cases.

Yunho got poisoned and went to hospital and there's been car chases.

Car chases with a murdering intent?

Oh, ok, ended in crashes, inadvertently causing injuries.

By the way what changed in the maintenance?

if you google 사린으로 죽은 연예인(murdered celebrity) you can find a case like this: LINK

I guess "celebrity murdered by a fan of them" is too narrow and "murdered celebrity" would be more realistic. Cause most people don't try to kill famous people in the first place. I read most of the case.

Also there have been threats of shooting and bombing overseas concert venues by deranged individuals.

It seemed to be just a threat that they did not plan to go through with.

Well for the people I listed specifically, it's more like the killers had mental problems that led them to extreme actions over a religious remark or a romantic obsession. But yes, I guess these are closer to murders with a normal motive, and the killer knew the victim because the victim was a celebrity. Not a murder that happened because the killer was a fan of the celebrity.

I didn't know about that, is South Korea considered a safer country then?

That's why I thought how has it not happened yet, because fans are able to touch celebrities at the airport (although I guess it's after going through the detector), and some rare cases of people getting into private places or the same flight shows that it is possible to bypass their security if someone is very dedicated to this goal. But I guess very few people actually dedicate their life to crime or saesang activities and hardly any of these people would want to cause harm to the singers.

  • The reason I was thinking of this was because I was reading about an idol getting mean messages over Bubble, and I thought, if people can be obsessed with idols and try and even succeed at stalking them in real life, then what is stopping them from killing them? I guess just that they don't want to and most people will not try to injure or kill others in their lifetime.
