Idols really had a hard time in 2019-2021 huh. It seems like the 4th gen girlies brought the general public back with their songs...

  • oh man it really was rough for idols the last few years

I did some quick maths there, and only 2019 is actually a rough year with few idol #1's. 2020 and 2021 had similar numbers as pre-2019, but it's just that a few songs gobbled up all the time (especially Dynamite at 75 :skull: )

2017 and 2019 are actually the years with the least idol #1 days. 2022 still stands as one of the strongest, if not the strongest, year.

  • And yet Melon gave EXO the Artist of the Year for 2017 when TWICE had 3 Songs that charted number 1 on the Dailies and EXO had none.

Don't worry as MNet and everyone else screwed TWICE over too, I mean GAON (Circle) had TWICE with 4 number 1 Songs in a single year yet they can't get Artist of the Year?

Obviously it's JYParks fault for selling Hotdog Buns instead of Sausages :P

whether you like it or not whether it’s fan mass buying or streaming no matter what you want to call it KKB has a insane amount of streams on melon. Just because you’re salty doesn’t mean EXO didn’t deserve to win. And melon is based on melon’s internal data and it doesn’t matter if you think the numbers are fake : they exist and they’re there for everyone to see.

EXO have always been the sons of Melon. All their b sides and their entire albums have insane number of UL’s and streams on Melon. I assure you if you calculate the total UL’s for albums in 2017 you will find EXO far exceed Twice for the b sides. If there is one award EXO always deserve to win it’s MMA. Because EXOL fandom put their entire fandom strength into streaming on that platform.

But an Artist is tested on their impact with a number of Comebacks in the same year NOT some OLD ASS Songs from previous Years which EXO was notorious for as their Songs from Albums not released were streaming in the Top 100 in the Zombie Hours.

The change for Song Ranking was literally due to EXO's Zombie Streamers that pretty much ruined Singers for the PAK rankings where in the 4th gen, Singers are getting a free 10 hour period where the Charts Freeze, unless that has changed?

Anyway, my position doesn't change, EXO was in their 6th year since debut and had 4 number 1 songs, TWICE did that in 1 year

a big difference is that far less groups are able to reach the top. 3-4 vs 9.

    Wow I’m surprised I don’t see Exo

  • Whats different is that its much harder to reach #1 to begin with, because popular songs stay there for much longer now. Averega time spent at #1 back then was like 3-4 days. Now its more like 20+ days

If anyone was robbed of artist of the year in 2017 it was IU

She had four songs with pak that year (+1 feature on another song that also got pak), the most downloaded and streamed album (second most downloaded album ever) and one of the biggest song released in the last decade

But thats awards criteria for you, when fanvotes and judge criterias make up almost half the points. (Not to mention the fact that the formula for calculating the digital score is only known to melon)

Then you find out their only entry in the 2017 Year-End Chart was KoKoBop at #79 :pepe-tea:
