The lack of outrage on the CSR win shows the reduced relevancy of the Music Charts on TV

  • When Laboum defeated the person on the left of this post, there was an outrage which lasted for a long time and Laboum, which didn't have too much to begin with, never really regained its power following the Yulhee fiasco and its brief revival following the Brave Girls craze didn't really lead to anywhere and it disbanded in Aug 2022 without too much fanfare.

However, when CSR , which is a nugu, I have to say, won #1 in Music Bank (no one bothered to count its rank in the other 2 shows) against Younha, the outrage was not too great. In fact some people congratulated CSR.

That might be because CSR, unlike Laboum , is an unknown, and because of the FIFA World Cup not too many acts were making comebacks Also CSR , since it is so unknown, did not build a history so people did not even know who to pound on.

But also it became an event to show the meaninglessness of the music show wins; now people follow album sales and youtube views as the standard for an act's success , and music show wins which are dictated heavily by the whim of the broadcasters have lost a lot of their luster.

In fact it might have helped csr a bit; it is basically the only 4th gen girl group which does songs done by acts like Lovelyz and GFriend (with some hint of earlier Twice), and people who liked songs from these groups , who now have no one to stan for, might find CSR appealing.

With the proliferation of newer style of media, music shows are increasingly shunned by the more major acts, who find it simply a waste of time. it does not pay well and it takes a day, or more since some perfs are pre recorded, to show up in a music show Few overseas fans watch the whole show; anyways ; they only see clips of their fave and that's about it.

I think that within a couple of years, music shows will go the way of the dodo. It had its uses, but I think it has outlived its usefulness and will have to go.

  • I think nowadays

    people say:

"controversial winner in music show, lemme check it...

ah it was Music Bank again, no one cares"

  • Probably because Younha doesn't have a fandom.

If Younha had a fandom like Lim Young-Woong, then we probably would have seen people get more upset.

But, I agree, music show wins don't mean anything. For a long time, people who aren't big with the GP have been racking up wins (my faves included).

At this point, it only really matters for nugus since that can help open up more doors for their career in Korea.

I think idols still value the win. I know Yena cried for her 1st win with Smiley, and I can see NMIXX crying when they (eventually lmao) get their 1st win. But yeah, fans don't care otherwise.

  • Idols care a lot, at least in the beginning of their careers. By the time years 4, 5, and 6 roll around, if they've already won like 50 of them, they probably wont care. I know they'll gladly not go to the shows if they dont have to, seeing as how you're forced to wake up at 2AM and spend 18 hours in the studio waiting and practicing and waiting again. Shit is so ridiculous. They should consolidate music shows by merging The Show and Show Champion into one show. Then consolidating the Big Four music shows into the Big Three. This would result in a total of 4 music shows instead of 6 per week, which would allow the groups to actually have some much needed breaks in between.

There are simply too many, and yes, experienced acts don't bother anymore. It is increasingly becoming a playground for newer acts.

The whole system has changed very little from 1980s. Back then, just like now, singers had to wait for whole day to get their turns, and after the show was over all the singers, except Cho Yongpil who had the right to come and go as he pleased, had to wait till the producer came out and greet the staff or they could not appear on tv anymore. So people like Lee Moonsae and Lee Seunghwan began to shun tv altogether and not show up in music shows.

  • Younha has a small but very loyal fandom called Y-holics which has supported her for all her ups and downs in the last 15 years, but since they have seen and heard everything, and the very fact that Younha was having a concert at the time of the music bank airing, made them care less. They are older and experienced, and would not make a move to crush the dreams of a group from a small company

  • CSR promoted alot of the got points for it

If music shows do t reward artists for promotion then soon no one will perform there.

  • Many idols still care a lot, tbh. Key - a very experienced artist - was crying when he got his first solo win - and NCT 127 - who have been in the industry for 6 years - were also emotional at finally winning on Inkigayo last year, where they had never won. For many artists, it still is a validation or feel-good moment to win on these shows, no matter how much fans complain they’re not relevant. This is just like fans saying this award show or that award show are not relevant while recipients are sniffling on stage.

    It’s all your perspective.

The common sense here to me is smaller groups have a better shot of winning on weeks when no major groups are releasing, particularly if they have a little organization, which is what happened here.

  • Laboum didnt disband. They are on hiatus because they are looking for a new agency. they intend to hold a small concert on february and still do activities under their name. seems like yujeong also come back to participate in their activities.

Yes , it is in a 'semi-permanent' hiatus.

They will have to find people who will fund their feb concert, like crowdfunding .
