Do you think ITZY vocal ability limits their musical profile?

  • the issue is overall speaking kpop has never been about having the "best" vocalists

if one was after the best vocalists then one wouldn't gravitate towards kpop no?

it's a combination of factors that make people like certain groups either because of or notwithstanding the vocals...

no as a fan of Itzy do I think they have the best vocals of course not - do I think they have bad vocals no but regardless does it limit my enjoyment as a whole of the group and their songs? no

  • I mean we are talking relative to other kpop vocalists not the sopranos selfmate.

I do believe having greater vocal ability adds spice and variability to songs.

I do believe having greater vocal ability adds spice and variability to songs.

but even if one compares it across groups I can acknowledge that there are groups with better vocalists than itzy as a whole just as there are groups with worse...

my point is in the grand scheme of things that probably doesn't really matter to an itzy fan...

I do understand where you are coming from my friend - you are absolutely right to hold that opinion - do I want all the members to hit lvl 100 in vocal colours and technique? no course but at this point it's very unlikely to happen so (to me) might as well enjoy what I've got

  • It's less about their vocals, more of what they do with them.

Talk singing, shouts, someone else pointed out the tendency of JYP groups to absolutely scream sing (which is spot on, O.O is another prime example), it's all very jarring vocals wise.

They can sing enough for Kpop, but give them songs where they have a bit more melody in their vocals, they can still be energetic and upbeat.

  • gidle ive and stayc have proven groups don't need great vocal technique for music to sell.

reversely, nmixx is a group full of excellent vocalists but how are their music doing?

its less about their technique and more about half of their voice tone.

how many seconds do you think yuna and ryujin would get if they were in gidle?

in itzy, they combined for 40% of a song.

in which group do the non-vocalist sing 40%?

i will go out on a limb and say their voice tone (thats 2/5 of the group) and line distribution is what holding back their music and the genres they (the other 3) can do.

  • No, because I enjoy listening to Itzy's album songs. Their vocals have improved since Not Shy. For example, I can't listen to their voices in Dalla Dalla periods. So if there is improvement, they can still improve themselves. As far as I can see, the voice can be opened up by working. All they have to do is improve themselves by taking lessons from a good vocal teacher. Because I heard that the vocal technique Jyp teaches is not good. Somi said was relieved when switched to YG. There is probably no one in Jyp who teaches singing in healthy technique.

  • Their music is performance based, meant to be shouted or talk rapped while they're busting moves, they're not out there belting out Broadway or doing RnB runs.

If their music was more conducive to relaxed singing, we would hear more of this. I was shocked at how clean Ryujin's tone was.

  • totaly agree with . With the song In the Morning, they had a less annoying tone and i totaly like it.

practically all of Nmixx are better singers than Somi so I don't think it's that

JYP just had a focus on visuals/dance for Itzy, not vocals. Lia has a pretty voice but their style doesn't really let her show it off.

I think they'd sound fine if they sang more melodic songs but that's not their sound, which is fine. Groups target different markets.
