Did you ever eat korean food and when yes, which one is your favorite

  • Korean is probably my fave cuisine, I love the complexity of the flavours. Fave dishes are probably Gamjatang (Potato and pork bone stew) or Kimchi Jjigae (kimchi stew).

Kimchi can be different, depending on how it was made, or how it's been fermented. Worth trying each time, and if you have somewhere that makes it fresh, try them before getting a mass produced one from the shops. You can also stir fry it or make kimchi fried rice if it's not doing it for you fresh.

For beginners, I'd recommend trying the below dishes.

    - Bibimbap

    - Bulgogi (pork if you can, otherwise beef)

    - Korean fried chicken (various sauces but would probably recommend the sweet & spicy sauce)

    - Tofu kimchi (stir friend kimchi and tofu)

    - Instant noodles that you can do at home (cheese ramen, shin ramyun, vegetasty, gomtang)

    - Jajangmyeon (black bean sauce noodles - you can get the instant packs too and make it easily at home, pic of my go to brand at home. I always have a pack in the cupboard).

  • Oh Korean food is common. I can eat it literally anytime I want it's easy to find

Please, I would love for it to be common where I live :sob-bunny: until recently there was not even 1 Korean restaurant in my voivodeship :crys:

Recently they did open one but it's super mega expensive.

But I do really love Kimchi Jjigae and Bibimbap and Cheese Buldak

  • I love my Shin ramyeon, I have it every other week!!!

Love samgyeopsal, bibimbap, japchae and jjajangmyeon

  • Sadly, small town suburban England is not great for Korean food but I cook quite a lot at home.

Generally the soups/stews, kimchi jigae, sundubu jigae, doenjang jigae. Tteok guk, miyeok guk, seollongtang… Have done budaejigae a couple of times because husband is a mad fan, but that’s a LOT of carbs and processed meat. Lots of bibimbap, obv. pretty sure I could eat tteokbokki every day. Hubs likes standard spicy. I like the royal court version. Dduk galbi is a nice weekday dinner. Many many many pancakes.

As an aside, for those that know - although it’s total fusion - the kimchi beef quesadillas off that one episode of Run BTS are some of the best comfort food you can shove in your gob.

    (Apologies for my Korean spelling).

  • korean foods are spicy and have alot of fermented ingredients which makes them right up my alley

I love the cold spicy noodles in summer so good, I eat it like twice a week for lunch

Soft tofu stew is another fav of mine. I make the simplified version very often for myself. It's spicy.

If you like more mild dishes, try bulgogi and galbi. Those are short ribs and braised ribs.

Jajangmyeon and Jampong are also so good but they are more Chinese food popular in korea.

The fish cake soup is also good

japche makes a good side dish

I love their jeons which is just assortment of savory pancakes, kimchi and seafood are my fav

  • My absolute favorite is Dolsot Bibimbap - and let me introduce you to this Korean YT chef that I adore, Maangchi.

I also like the many vegetable dishes - like her vegetable rice bowl etc.

  • She's great :finger-heart:

  • Oh, Maangchi  I love her recipes, and she is lovely :red-heart:

  • dak galbi . . . however, it's very hit or miss depending on the restaurant because most places have their own house spices/sauce that they marinate the chicken in. But I've found a place where I live that's just amazing (and I went through a lot of mediocre spots to get there lol). Ddeokbokki is another one that is extremely variable depending on the restaurant, but if you find a place with amazing sauce it's incredible.

In terms of like how good it is on average across all restaurants then it's hard to beat samgyeopsal (especially because you have to cook it yourself basically every time lol) or kimchi jiigae.
