Frankly I give a pass to young idols who say ignorant dumb shit

  • I think we need to stay away from getting our information from celebrities.

Idk how that became a thing, even outside kpop

People will follow sth bc a celebrities endorsed it

Yeah it's something that's been I guess permeated in cultures since forever. I don't think it will go away easily. I also think with social media, it exacerbates this because of how we can just watch and hear what these celebrities say much more easily and the information gets more widespread.

We can hope that with providing good education and stuff that it will help though.

  • so long as they clarify idc because at the end of the day its their massive fandom who start perpetuating these ideas just because their idol did which either allows them a space to spout hateful stuff they always believed in or to say it just to defend their idol.

Just because some of their fans did something doesn’t mean you should take it out on the idols

It's crazy up to less than 100 years ago, celebrities were philosophers, scientists and social activists. So it kinda made sense to follow their words.

Now celebrities are athletes and entertainers. Doesn't make sense to follow them on scientific, social or moral matters.

  • Sometimes doing the right thing is hard af bc you know it won't matter at the end

Might as well do what benefits me the most right now

I still think its good to get information yourself.

    educate yourself.

I recently found a youtube channel of a marine biologist. its really interesting

and I decided to never go to a zoo or aquarium ever again in my life, because I now know that even fishes can feel pain and 80% of the animals in zoos are not even threatened. they are robbed of their freedom just to entertain humans and then die. some fish live like 2 years max and than they die even though they could get to 10 years or older in freedom.

there are studies that say that children become dumb when they visit the zoo because they think the animals behavior in a zoo is their real behavior. even if zoos sometimes are able to breed certain animals, most of them can not be relreased into the wild, because they would die immediately.

Yes marine life is never meant to be held captive

It's also dumb that people spend so much money saving pandas cause they are cute eventhough they don't impact the ecosystem.

But fuck sharks cause they are ugly eventhough they are essential for our ecosystem

The whole animal preservation effort is so misguided

  • yeah. I`m glad I found him. I learned a lot in just a few days watching his videos.

he is a big fan of orcas. I learned a lot about them.

they are amazing animals. sadly there are still a lot of orcas held captive for entertainment reasons.

he said around 50 known orcas (in canada, usa etc), and probably over 20 more in russia and asia. they dont reveal it and they dont give a fuck about the animals. there are orcas that have to live alone like that even though they live with their family their whole life. they can feel emotion 4 times more than humans, now imagine what happens to an orca that has to live 10 years or longer all alone. they bite off their teeth on the poolside, get depression and hit their heads on the wall. another fact is that whales can actually commit suicide because whales have to actively remind themselves of breathing, so if they are too depressed they can simply decide to not breath anymore.

  • Well that and in the last 10 years people in general are overly sensitive about EVERYTHING so when these kids do slip up it is blown out of proportion

FACTS and these overly sensitive pussiess should find another place to live. There's plenty of unoccupied islands they can turn into their very own utopia.

  • really depends on what type of ignorant shit they are saying

Not really 🤡. Kinda hard to teach these kids right from wrong when they are working as an idol or trainee since 12. Most don't get enough time for school and with how idol life is these kids are often socially awkward because they are couped up in the agency learning Music and dance they rarely are taught how to human, so social cues and what's" acceptable" in today's overly sensitive world is lost in translation especially when most of this stuff is primarily from western countries. If its not local to Korea, guaranteed they are not taught it because by the agency and their surrogate parents= managers, that shit is irrelevant and isn't going to make them money or help them become better performers, so any "woke" stuff is left out entirely. They are forced to find out the hard way, by blundering through society like a wrecking ball.

Them not knowing how to human hits home when you meet them in person, have a few idol friends and what hit me was when one visited my house and he didn't know how to use a washing machine like he looked at it like ot was alien. I was dumbfounded like you seriously can't be real right now. It was like meeting someone that didn't know what a light switch was. In hindsight it makes sense idols are usually taken care by the manager and is some cases they actually live with the manager so their dad since 12 is the manager, they also quite often have a maid type person who will clean the dorm for them and in some cases cook for them the caregiver is usually female, and it makes sense, those kids spend 17+ hrs aday away from home and on the rare cases they are truly off they are very tired

  • Yeah I think a lot of fans fails to realise how painfully uneducated their biases are. Majority of idols don’t have a real high school education, some don’t even graduate middle school.

There’s been moments when an idol has said or done something that made me go “Oh they can’t be too smart…” but later realised that it had more to do with their lacking education. Lots of idols education level is the same as your average fifteen year old.

  • just for a joke

ps: but in same time, sometimes they need a hit to the temple (on paper), because if they won't learn now about certain things, there is no way they will learn in the future

  • For me, it's not even about idols being ignorant. My biggest problem is locals thinking the entire fucking world revolves around THEIR beliefs, their values, their opinions on right and wrong. And the condescending, patronizing way these locals have the nerve to actually start lecturing folks thousands of miles away, the sheer audacity and entitlement is mindboggling.

Koreans have their own ideas about right and wrong, what's socially appropriate what's not, either accept it or move on. Like i think there are tons of fucked up shit about Korea, just like how we have our own problems here, but you would never catch me using a fucking fansign to start lecturing them, my god, it makes me seethe just thinking about it.

That's the way of things now.

They think they're changing the world.

In reality they've just been empowered to be self centered, entitled, and undeservedly righteous.

  • Agreed. I mean Ni-ki is only 16 and let's not pretend people aren't naive at that age. As long as he grows and matures which I'm sure he will, it's really no big deal. I'm sure all of us said ignorant things growing up. We can't expect perfection from a literal kid.

FACTS and the kicker is most of us growing up actually had a real education, school and a social life to actually learn. Wheras these idols have none of that the majority of the time.

PREACH!! 1000% FACTS. The people in the back need this slapped across their faces 10 times.

  • Good point OP.

They indeed are teenagers who in addition to the typical immaturity, have spent lesser time in learning the cultural issues of the world, compared to other immature teenagers.

And their profession - entertainment, be it idols, acting or whatever, across the world isolates them into bubbles.

Unfortunately very few entertainers - even the mature ones, have the self awareness about this and take utterly idiotic positions, often to play to some progressive virtue signalling trend.

With Kpop, it is worse given that they are teens.

They were given no space to make mistakes, which is the part of any individuals learning experience.

It is a modern malaise, where celebrities are held both AS a moral standard and TO higher moral standards - at least in Korea.

In the West, they need not have any moral standards to opine about things.

Actors like Tom Selleck who refused to advise to students, saying "I make faces for a living, and an no role model to others' are rare.
