Nope, Shinee in no way sounds like NCT or superm. Aespa's vocals are similar to RVs but that's because there from the same company with the same training. To be honest they may have a little similarities but maybe that's what SM wants, all their groups to be cohesive.

Damn, I think the same when I listen to One but not to Obsession.

I think they have a pool of songs and give them to whoever is in line for a comeback. Some songs end up being iconic and some just feel like any SM group can sing them.

But yes SM gives their groups a distinctive sound that when played together, you can feel they can interchange songs and the results won't be too different sometimes.

I think they've been trying to make EXO sound like NCT lately and SuperM sounds like a mix of Shinee and NCT. I don't see too much EXO in them.

Anyway OP they all share producers. Some songs are more distinct than others but in the end Ofc there’s a common thread if you have pool of producers and your groups are gonna perform those songs.

Anyway tbh for me KPOP as a whole was never distinct enough. So like hahah.

The main problem with Aespa is that SM seems to be forcing the members to be bland, instead of allowing them to show more of their individuality or at least having them push the envelope instead of playing it too safe. Things that were "experimental" 20 years ago aren't any longer in 2021

The NCT subunits don't even sound the same...

I think it's actually a combination: yes, there's similarities between groups of the same company, but no they're still distinctively separate from eachother.

The similarities are there, because training and selection will steer towards certain preferences in vibe, vocal sensibilities and style etc in the trainees that will succeed in debuting.

Also, composers and producers are often not limited to just 1 group within a company, but will produce stuff for multiple groups at the company.

But that applies to all companies:

both 2NE1 songs and BP songs share a similar vibe, because you can hear Teddy behind them (and some BP songs were even intended for 2NE1).

A lot of songs of JYP groups also share a recognisable, similar JYP vibe (but luckily not a JYP whisper anymore ), which isn't odd when they have the same producers behind them (also, JYP used to be a massive, hyperactive songwriter for his groups).

But there's definitely distinctive differences too:

SNSD can't be compared with f(x), and neither are f(x), Red Velvet and Aespa the same, or like SNSD.

Same for the boy groups: NCT is VERY different from a SHINee or Super Junior or TVXQ.

As for Aespa, they just debuted and only have 2 songs. There's no telling how they'll develop as a group.

Did we know how SNSD, EXO or Red Velvet turn out with their distinctive identity, right after their debut? No.

But we can already see that Aespa's debut song and style is nowhere near SNSD's, f(x), or Red Velvet's debut song.
