I think there's just more competition now. Now that kpop is viable globally, there's a lot more investment money pouring into small labels. Also, things ebb and flow naturally. JYP was almost dead prior to Twice. Don't worry about it so much, just support the idols you like the best, we don't need to shed any tears for these corporations.

Because Ariana isn't an "idol", she's a recording artist. People definitely get cancelled for racism, sexual assault, etc, but western fans don't expect recording artists to be perfect role models in their private lives.

Finally? She debuted almost a decade ago. Definitely one of the best ❤️

I tend to agree. Sometimes they care for longer than 2 years, but it's sad when the company obviously stops giving groups the same quality they once did. They haven't given SHINee or red velvet something I feel they deserve in years, but they keep them on just to make whatever quick buck they can. I don't totally understand it though, because often the different groups have different styles. Like I can't imagine Aespa getting a red velvet style song anyways, so why not just invest a lot into both? This is why some fans get upset when a new group debuts. There should be enough resources to go around though..

So far, yes, they do need Korea. You use fifty fifty as an example, but that's based on your assumption that they're gonna leave Korea and have a massively successful career abroad. That's a huge assumption. I think it's more likely that they're a one hit wonder that we'll never hear from again. I love Cupid, but they didn't write that song, there's nothing special about them as a group without that producer.
Right now kpop fans are watching Korean music shows and visiting websites like this one to learn about new groups. Girl groups in other countries that don't have this platform, like the very talented "Boys World" here in the US, aren't gaining any traction at all, despite having better songs than some kpop groups that are doing well. Another example is XG. They're an all Japanese group from a Japanese company that only sings in English, clearly targeting the western market. So why are they promoting on Korean music shows and claiming to be a kpop group? Because that's ironically the easiest way for them to gain western fans. If they were just making tiktoks and trying to get on American radio shows they'd be total nobodies.
In conclusion, kpop groups can make most of their money abroad now, but they still need Korea to be able to access that foreign market.

I just feel like they were on such an upward trajectory, and due partly to unfortunate events like Wendy's accident and Irene's scandal, and partly to taking a left turn musically, we'll never get to see how big they could have gotten. Especially with kpop being mainstream globally now. SM is aggressively marketing aespa in the US, but I think RV with concepts like Bad Boy and Psycho would have done a lot better.

Girl groups that no longer put out hit title tracks become irrelevant in online discussions pretty quickly.
This. There's too much competition to put out average music these days. We're past the point where just being pretty, and likable, and coming from a Big 3 company is enough to keep you on the top.
That said, I think Itzy is doing just fine. Realistically no girl group or boy group stays on top forever, they all fade eventually. The important thing for the girls is that they all became household names, and can leverage that in their future careers. In the meantime, they have a solid fan base and can keep enjoying this level of success for several more years.

This is the correct answer, it's all about timing. Let's not read too much into it and spark fan wars.

I don't think "It Girl" is something a company can achieve simply by investing a certain amount in an idol. It's different than winning awards, or selling the most albums, or having the most CF's, it's about having an intangible quality like confidence that makes the idol go viral. For example Hani's company didn't promote her as much as the other idols you mentioned, she just had a fancam go viral.
When it comes to Seulgi, I don't think her full potential has been tapped yet. I'm hopeful she'll keep releasing successful solo albums. She's very likable and talented, I think she can continue to have a long career with the right music. Taeyeon and IU aren't really fashion icon/IT girls like Jennie, it's not the only avenue for success.

I don't know enough about boy groups so I'll stick to girl groups and remain under 10 picks.
Also, it's not really a subjective list but more like what I see as 4th gen milestones.
1. (G)I-DLE - LATATA
If we agree the 4th generation starts in 2018, then LATATA is the inaugural song for the 4th gen girl groups. Not an absolute smash hit, but it nevertheless achieved way more than what was expected from this relatively nugu group and did set the girls on their own path.
2. IZ*ONE - La Vie En Rose (or FIESTA)
People tend to forget them in 4th gen discussions because they disbanded what seems like a lifetime ago. Yet they're one of the reasons 4th gen was established in 2018 and their impact and success back then was undisputable. And we still see the ripples of it with the debuts of IVE and LE SSERAFIM.
3. ITZY - Dalla Dalla (or WANNABE)
Dalla Dalla was their biggest success but I feel like it's WANNABE that achieved the greater success worlwide. And I like the song more. Either way, ITZY's relevance in early 4th gen (at least) can't be denied.
Needs no explanation I guess.
5. IVE - ELEVEN or LOVE DIVE
Maybe LOVE DIVE achieved more, but it wouldn't have without ELEVEN "paving the way"™.
6. (G)I-DLE - TOMBOY
The rebirth of a group that had been left for dead. A hit that reached heights no one could have anticipated.
7. NewJeans - Attention
We lack hindsight so it's my most uncertain pick. Still it's an incredible debut for such a young group.
This is the correct answer! (If you pick Wannabe for Itzy) I'll add:
9.) Dreamcatcher (unclear if they're late 3rd gen or not) - BEcause

Yes! Came here to say the same thing, I can't think of any other group where each member consistently gives so much on stage. Still miss Jonghyun so much.
