If you had picked "Tell me" as your Wonder Girls song I'd have to pick that one. That seemed to be the one song that lots of non-kpop stans knew at the time, everyone in the general public knew the choreo too. Of this list, I think "Roly Poly" was the biggest hit with the general public, for months people were obsessed. Too bad t-ara's ceo kept throwing the girls under the bus and threatening to replace them. They had too much drama to progress to the top tier despite releasing so many great, catchy hits.

I don't think anyone in these top groups should be complaining, they've basically won the lottery. I feel more compassion for the members who carry all the weight in terms of singing and dancing, only to watch a mediocre performer get all the attention and brand deals because they happen to be closer to some arbitrary beauty ideal. If Chaewon is the most popular member, she deserves it.

Idk, I don't think "It girl" is based on who you think is objectively the prettiest or even who has the most brand deals thanks to their well connected company, it's who garners the most attention with the general public. Basically who will generate news articles just for sneezing. At the moment, that idol is indisputably Wonyoung. People are completely obsessed with her, both positively and negatively. I'm not a Wonyoung or Ive stan, this is just a fact. No one else in 4th gen has that amount of name recognition and attention at this point.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. Like an everglow b-side. I wanted so badly to like it because I want Itzy to succeed, but this missed the mark. The song isn't memorable or catchy, and something about the styling and mv just seems a tad dated. Like they were trying to copy aespa or blackpink or everglow's styling, but not adding anything new to it.

I feel like BM was more hyped beforehand, but due to their date being pushed around a lot, overshadowed by speculation about Blackpink's contracts, the visual dropping out, and the song sounding like something that was probably put together a decade ago for 2ne1, it's kinda fizzled out. I'm sure they'll still do great in the future, they just need a more viral hit. I'm still honestly not even clear if this is their official debut, or some preview track like when exo released "history" and "what is love" ahead of the actual debut promotions.
Aespa had a more creative concept that generated buzz for a while, not to mention people being obsessed with Karina's visual.

Honestly, I think JYP did pretty well with Itzy. They're a dance group with limited vocals and they got some very catchy and powerful tracks to solidify their fanbase by showing off their stage presence. They really can't ask for much more than that. It's difficult for them to progress to other concepts like some of the top gg's did because of the limited vocals I think. It's fine, not everyone can be the generation leader, and all of the girls have very solid name recognition to go on to do whatever they want in the industry as their time in the group winds down. The vast majority of idols don't make it to that stage.
Nmixx on the other hand has been totally screwed over by JYP with poor song choices. There are plenty of big four groups who peaked somewhere below the very top, like Itzy, but I can't think of another big four girl group or boy group that was still struggling this much almost two years in. It's sad because their vocals are way above average for JYP. Maybe that's the problem, they don't know how to write songs for great singers. Is that why they seemed to be attempting to copy the sm style? Lol.

I get what you mean about some songs doing better just because the group is trending. Like if IVE released this song, yes, there would be more than 4.8 million views on YouTube by now. That said, it's not that great a song in my opinion, it's pretty average. Would have been better as a b-side. Viviz has enough name recognition that a lot of general Kpop fans will give their new releases a shot, but not a huge, hardcore fanbase that will help them win music shows for mediocre tracks. They need better songs if they want to do better.

Agreed. Overall I love the mv and the girls look and sound incredible. The song itself could have been better, there isn't a part that really gets stuck in my head like Savage or any of their other title tracks. They keep jumping around to make it sound more exciting I guess, but it would have landed better if it was just slightly catchier. Overall I still like it though.

I wanted to vote for I've since Yujin was my bias in izone, but I think objectively it's New Jeans. Their discography is impressively consistent, more than half of members are competent vocalists (even though neither group is a vocal powerhouse), and the members are more equal in their popularity. To be fair, it's not really reasonable to expect every I've member to be as popular as Wonyoung who got a big head start, but overall I'd just say New Jeans is a more consistent group.

To be fair, I hated that song when it first came out, only could listen to it once. Three weeks later it's been stuck in my head this entire day. Maybe everyone else had that same experience.

Well NMIXX too, their popularity declined internationally. Plus they have never been relevant in Korea.
We all know NMIXX album sales are inflated so I’m not going to go further.
Stayc have never been more popular internationally than in Korea so I don’t see why we should be worry about them. I-fans are as fickle as the KR GP, we all see with 4th GG how the 4th gen leaders discourse changes every year.
Stayc 1st US Stop welcomed over 20,000 fans while The NMIXX girlies were struggling to sell 2,000 tickets.
Considering one is from a top company and is considering as big as Stayc despite one being Korea centric I wouldn’t say they’re above them
Good summary. I'm not a JYP stan generally, but it's criminal that their most talented group in a while is doing this poorly. With those vocals the girls should have been given singles that would top the charts. Poor things joined JYP expecting to be the next Twice and this is what's happening...

Yeah, it truly doesn't add up. You can't just break a contract on a whim without a big legal battle.
Agreed about feeling bad for nmixx, they're objectively more talented than most of the 4th gen groups that are outshining them. It's such an injustice and missed opportunity. Why can't they have some decent music?

Haven't Aespa's sales continued to increase? If you don't like some of their songs, that's fine, but I don't see any objective evidence for calling them a one hit wonder. It's not like they're Crayon pop, Brave Girls, or 50/50 where the vast majority of people can only name a single song.
