The basic strategy is to debut new girl group every 2 years to appeal to a next batch of 10-12 year old girls.

And you think there is enough 10-12 years old girls every 2 years looking for new girl groups to justify such investments in this supposed strategy? And are these groups going to be disposable as soon as they underperform or are they supposed to have tons of different groups cannibalizing themselves in HYBE? The way the birthrate is going in SK and even in neighboring countries soon there might not even be enough trainees to debut

In I-Land Bang was the producer of the show and always appeared also with Pdogg and Sungdeuk being directors, for the R U Next I did not see such involvement. I know Sungdeuk is heavily involved with the Dream Academy project and interesting enough Bang posted a photo with the contestants together with the LE SSERAFIM, I don't see a similar photo with R U Next despite the final group already being formed.

Yep WY rarely talks about other groups afaik, but i distinctly remember her mentioning BP.

I suppose at this point it's easier to say which of these newer groups haven't mentioned BP, incidentally NJ being one of the notable exceptions I believe.

NJ has done two challenges at least with LSRFM, one for AF and one for Hybe Boy.

So they only do quid pro quo Tiktoks with HYBE groups?

From what I observed bp is the only gg aside starship ggs that wy seem to be enthusiastic about

Right, I only remember seeing her mention western singers before. Who knows maybe she is a secret fan of some boy groups, seems funny to imagine that.

Did NewJeans ever even dance to groups other than BTS? The only one I remember was in that collab at one of those award shows with a bunch of members of different groups together

    7. But it's really fascinating how she only refuses to dance to NewJeans' songs. NewJeans' dances are pretty popular but she still doesn't know them. It makes me wonder if she just doesn't care about them? But seeing her dancing to Blackpink's song, she seems to just want to dance to the dances she likes

Wonyoung likes Blackpink? I knew some fellow members like Yujin were fans, interesting I've wondered before who she likes or if she even liked other groups.

I do think it's different, BLM having to backtrack on anything seemed unthinkable just months ago. Now a bunch of Harvard students are getting targeted next for losing any job offers they might have.

With affirmative action being overturned by the Supreme Court, even Ivy League colleges are not safe spaces anymore. This is now but just imagine what is going to happen if Trump wins the election.

And, I don't know about other countries, but I know in the US, there is a large group of vocal people who are very anti-Israel. It's a very divisive subject. Most people I know, who are not Jewish, are anti-Israel and celebrities here get attacked for posting anything pro-Israel.

This was true for leftist dominated spaces, but recent events have made things different. From a pornstar to NYU Law Student Bar Association student president losing job offers for supporting HAMAS. Cancel culture used to be a leftist weapon against the right but now even the Chicago BLM movement had to backtrack and delete social media posts made also in support.

    Yeah, I contemplated that too.

NiziU had some decent international interest for their pre-debut and debut, but after that, their YouTube views plummeted and their Japanese fanbase are the only ones who really supported them.

It'd be interesting to see if they really do gain more international interest with this Korean debut.

You know I remember seeing various K-Pop fans saying how they don't follow J-Pop because they lack in skills or difficulty in getting content due to copyright laws and lack of translations etc, but I think it's all bullshit, they also used to say they don't care for Japanese releases because it's the same song translated but even original Japanese songs get way less attention. Despite Japanese members of some K-Pop groups being pretty popular, you can see that Japanese content itself is not, the same can be said for Chinese content.

I think the aim is to try using a Korean debut to reach out to more international fans. Surely JYP knows that a Japanese KPOP group does not have much chance of actually getting popular in Korea.

Interesting that you mentioned &TEAM, I thought the HYBE fanbase would have made that group more popular internationally, but it seems even them can't do it, their debut MV hasn't even broken 10M views after 10 months.

Easy to be "unproblematic" when you have an "army" behind you. What an ironic choice for a fanbase name, it's like they somehow could see into the future when the name was chosen

Funny thread but I think OP already knows the answer and merely wanted to see the responses.

South Korea’s extremely declining birth rate may have something to do with it :/

that didn't stop multiple married male idols with some being dads now. Funny that reminds me that some of them were even shotgun marriages

He has not given up her Korean citizenship yet

Considering how he hasn't done yet he probably never will, he seems to take pride in being Korean. But what is his situation in regards to serving in the military? From what I know any male able-bodied Korean citizen who does not renounce his nationality either at his 18th or 38th birthday is obligated to serve if they enter Korean soil. I've heard that some Korean-Americans were forced to serve after entering the country to visit older relatives.

That reminds me of an interview with Teddy Park, he does not seem to identify with the term KPop, he was saying something like "if Korean people make music it's KPop, then why don't they do that for every country? What is KPop?" I think because he grew up in the US he does not identify with the nationalistic pride in KPop.

Isn't alot of KPop produced by Swedish, Americans and other nationalities. What is even the point of taking nationalistic pride in manufactured pop music anyway? Back in the late 60's pop music was already being seen as commercial not artistic.

I don't think I've ever seen the Canadian PM Justin Trudeau going on about how Justin Bieber is the pride of Canada or something like that, even poor Latin America countries don't seem to do that for people like Bad Bunny or whoever is supposed to be popular in the US now

    Wait, WTF is this comment?!

Scooter Braun is Jewish, but this comment must be mistranslated, the Jew stereotype is not that they are unintelligent as it seems to imply, on the contrary, the stereotype that they are smart and greedy is also know in Korea, in fact I remembered some years ago a case involving Samsung

"Last Sunday, writer Kim Ji-ho chimed in on the Samsung-Elliott dispute: “Jews are known to wield enormous power on Wall Street and in global financial circles … It is a well-known fact that the US government is swayed by Jewish capital."
