Should the K-pop community be worried on who can replace the popularity BTS and Blackpink ?

  • Western artist don't need to worry. Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber and some western artist are almost equally as popular one can see that through their subscribers alone where they have 20-40 or 40-50 million, so they can easily pass the torch to the next artist.

The worrying thing about K-pop. BTS and Blackpink popularity are already the world most popular boyband and girlgroup. They are No.1 and No.2 in K-pop. The difference in their subs compared with other K-pop artist is huge.

  • No

Why not ? After BTS and Blackpink. What K-pop can replace their massive popularity ?

The subscriber is a real thing. All the most popular western artist have 20 million to 50 million subs, the highest are always the most talked about too.

Big Bang had been in hiatis for long time Twice may have a chance. Exo is also too late.

TXT has 8.8 million subs. While they were better than BTS in rookies but I doubt they could reach even half the popularity of BTS. NCT they have 19-20 million subscribers only if their 3 NCT channels are all different people but I doubt that, most likely half are same subscribers

  • Subscribers is the dumbest metric. Do you think everyone who listens to Taylor Swift is subscribed to her on YouTube? Be serious.

  • Because not.

It's the Korean phonographic industry and the Korean government that should worry about it, not me.

  • No.

    Artists come and go.

    Genres come and go.

Kpop community is not any cohesive organization.

Kpop business can worry, that their market will stagnate or shrink.

Korean govt might worry in terms of economy and soft power.

    But the audience.. meh..

  • People want to be entertained and always looking for “the new thing”.

    Global trends come and go.

Maybe the idol concept is the new method in the music industry here to stay. Or it will just fade.

It’s nawt to be worried about.
