Which kpop group is the benchmark for success?

  • wouldn't it still be the top group though?

I mean one gets into (I know basketball) to be the next lebron or jordan not javale mcgee (if you don't know who mcgee is that's my point)

you get into movie directing to be the next Scorsese or Speilburg

you get into physics to be the next Eistein...

    get my point

so therefore as the top is BTS wouldn't every group want to be the next BTS?

  • I was taking it as an average working level of success. I'm sure everyone would love to be the next bts, but what level would be "fine"

then I wouldn't put a group but rather figures

GG - 100K album sales plus top 10 melon

BG - 500K album sales plus top 100 melon

that's a level of decent success (to my knowledge)

  • i'd rather name a group that I feel is amazing then the answer everyone would say in the masses

    Ateez

they practice everything LIVE. their stage presence is phenomenal, they have amazing rappers, vocals, and writers, and composers all in the group (putting edenary aside). They mastered the facial expressions and keep you engaged in their performances. So many hate them, but Idgaf, if you sit here and actually give them a chance you'd see how well they do. Their performances and stage presence is unlike any other and they work hard constantly. They always, always thank their fans and never let the fame get to their head. They released their epilogue album as a gift to atiny but in reality didn't want to release music that Mingi really wasn't part of because for them 8 really makes 1 team.

They have amazing, humble personalities, and I feel they are quite genuine and deserve MORE RESPECT than they get. Smaller groups cite them for inspiration and look up to them, and I really like seeing groups covering their music because their choreography is not easy.

They don't need a shit ton of wins, their sales keep improving, and I think Kingdom and winning on Immortal songs more than once has helped them a bit more, but still, I think people are sleeping on them too much.

  • :(

    Then Monsta X are flops.

They only sold 456K of No Limit per Wikipedia. It doesn't have their melon.

    that's my interpretation of it

just because a group hasn't reached MY subjective criteria doesn't mean anything

the real question is MX continiously growing and selling more and doing better each cb?

They got their highest sales and most music show wins with this cb. :)

I'm happy for however they do as long as they can justify their continued existence as a group if they wish to continue making music together.

there's a chinese story that I was told as a kid

there was a student in woodworking class and the project was to make a small wooden bench

all the students made their benchs and had varying results

when the teacher came to this student the student pulled out the most horribly looking bench the teacher ever saw...the teacher asked the student what the hell they were thinking in making such a badly designed bench...

the student shuffled nervously and tried to kick something under the desk...

the teacher asked what the student was trying to hide and pulled out two more wooden benches

each one even more hideous than the one in front of him
