The drama was targeted for distorting History before it even aired due to snippets of a synopsis that was spread around the internet right after the whole Joseon Exorcist debacle and was just thrown into the same pot. The same people who complained about Joseon Exorcist where the ones who organized the project to ban SD, the reason everything happened so fast. They made a posts right after the first episode, continuing accusing the Drama if distorting History. These one sided claims claims were spread to other SNS sites and the media reported about these one-sided claims without fact checking if the claims are true, there were no efforts made to really investigate if the claims were true and people who didn't watch the Drama started to complain about it and joined a petition to ban the Drama right after the first Episode . This lead to many believing that there was indeed distortion of History that happening. Media companies these days want fast clicks, so instead of a in depth coverage of the situation, just made a quick report about about people complaining about the distorting of history and the blue house petition to get the clicks (cause thats what people were interested in). After the 5th episode cleared some of the misunderstands, their focus has now went to the poor viewer ratings. Controversy remains for the sake of controversy. The media and SNS sites reporting about the incidents without fact checking have caused a lot of damage.

  • More evidence of lying about the historical connection to the democratic movement was the recent claim that they used a Cathedreal important to the democratic movement...

This tweet claimed that the Myeongdong Cathedral (an important place for the democratic movement) was used in the Drama as a meeting point between a NK Spy and a member pf the democratic party...

People under the Thread called out the OP for spreading lies, media still reprted this claim and did not clarified that it's not the cathedral.

The cathedral used in the Drama

    1640516105_(1).png?type=w800

The Cathedral used here is the Cathedral of the Bishops' seat located in Jukrim-dong, Chuncheon.

    1640515991_(2).jpg?type=w800

The Cathedral they claimed the Drama was using... Myeongdong Cathedral, they also name dropped a Cardinal Kim Soo Hwan (who was saving protesters).... trying to link it again to real events.

    myeongdong-cathedral-in-seoul-south-korea-picture-id504113124?k=20&m=504113124&s=612x612&w=0&h=afqXttW7l3LPaVwJ6teLR9ILr1lXL4MMQn_K7xDzAnU=

    Myeongdong.Cathedral.original.18520.jpg

Also the claimed that the church was used a meeting point between a spy and a member of the democratic party to imply that the democratic party was linked to NK.....

But there was no meeting, Professor Han visited the cathedral to confess to a priest, not to meet a spy, the spy disguised a priest to then abduct professort Han...

There are also comments asking the OP what he is normaly thinking, like how can you see a cathedral and a Spy disguised a priest to abduct someone and the first thing you think of Cardenal Kim Soo Hwan who saved many protesters life... ? (rough translation)

On the 29th , Division 21 of the Civil Settlement of the Seoul Western District Court (Chief Judge Park Byung-tae) rejected the application for an injunction against the screening of ' Seolganghwa' made by the civic group Universal Declaration of Citizenship against JTBC . The court decided that even if 'Seolganghwa' was based on a distorted view of history, viewers would not blindly accept it. In response, JTBC responded, "'Solganghwa' is a creative work that shows the personal narratives of those who were used and sacrificed by powerful people. . He added that the content of the drama is far from distorting history or defending dictatorship.

"Naver has YG shares, and YG has Naver shares so they are shielding each other" kind of story

would be really good to see comments and opinions by people who watched all 5 episodes

  • You know that is exactly what they will come here to say. One would think YG was in charge of production and funding of the show.

And as the article says, a lot of those going on about distortion have not even watched a single episode of it.

At the least, they only watched the first episode.

    I don't know, like

don't Koreans have those youtubers which reviews dramas/movies?

there are plenty of those here in Poland

then maybe one of them could make proper content,

well unless they already are trapped because they made some early review from premiere and bashed drama

  • Sure, some jumped at the opportunity to hate on the drama without caring why it got criticism. But what about the victims & organisations that came forward?

Everyone can have their opinion about this situation imo, but victims speaking up shouldn't be invalidated by grouping them with the others.

This is a good point. I know there are so many people who probably hate on the drama just for hating but we can’t completely ignore these victims and organizations who come forward to express their feeling.

Glad that it seems like some misunderstandings have been resolved and the controversy is over…for now.

  • i think 1987 was not that long ago, and is clearly still fresh in alot of peoples minds. In hindsight they were better off not setting it in that time frame.

those claims from so called 'Victim'/'Organisation' are failed flat and thrown the to the trash by court

Kind of my sentiment. I know it's fiction, but surely we can also understand people who lived through those times and suffered through horrible situations feeling sensitive about seeing the show on tv. It's not all black and white but I'm glad to see that the situation is possibly getting resolved bit by bit.

  • Wait a minute. I didn't know that people were literally making up stuff about the drama...

  • i watched it, and since i know nothing about korean history, i wont comment on that

but it is definitely true that a good amount of hate the show is receiving is people joining the bandwagon and a separate bunch of haters of blackpink/jisoo (evidenced by the many personal attacks toward jisoo and her looks and acting, and trying to cancel blackpink as a whole for a drama that jisoo is in, that she didn't even write?)

hopefully the hate will slowly die down

thankfully the court ruled in snowdrops favor. this is some good news for once

The victims and organizations came forward because these people were name dropping them linking scenes of the Drama to their story..... even though it had nothing to do with them and wasn't even the same in anyway way.

Just like they recently claimed that a specifc cathedral was used in the Drama that had significant importance to the democratic movement and even name dropping an already deceased Cardinal who helped protesters... anyway it was not the cathedral and the claim that was used to as a meeting place for NK spies was a lie as well, never happend or was shown like that in the Drama.

PS... the victims had all rights to be upset, i would be too if people tell me that my story was used in such a way...

  • whoever it was behind this, they tried really hard.

because it's a yg drama, they hate yg and still call everything they do chinese propaganda. ppl don't understand that this is only getting criticism because of joseon exorcist. the plot was supposedly leaked by antis at the same time of joseon exorcist cancellation with an intent to go after every yg drama. anyways, we can't do much about it. Jisoo should stick to romcoms, fantasy dramas from now on.

It's not a yg drama though. The only connection YG has to this series its 2 actresses being from YG Stage.

  • Of course they will, but will believe in post made on online Forums like the Theqoo who are notorious for spreading false information.

But i didn't post this to change peoples mind, cause it's already made up, just wanted to show a different side of the whole Drama cause the reports about it on international Forums are very one sided.

  • why cant blinks just shut up? the way you're trying desperately to defend this drama shows how little respect you have for your faves country/history

A journalist investigating the issue founds out a lot of it was false… Koreans point out lies that are spread online…

    A blink makes a Thread about it…

    Random user

Why can’t Blinks shut up and stop defending this Drama..

So the court is a Blink ?, the professional calling out the unfair treat of Snowdrop are Blinks ? and the comments calling out liess are Blinks too ? Lawyers who stated

Please don’t act like you care for Korea, otherwise you wouldn’t be dismissing Koreans for calling out false information…

  • Court just thrown those victim applicant to the trash, now what ?

Now they will say the court is being bribed. Typical from some people that act as they do it out of justice and in this case for their country's history. Why don't that 3900 people that send the applicant hire someone that knows deeper about the country's history? Knetz just jumps the hate train, they don't even bother to look properly whether that history is being distorted or inaccurate. The allegation starts before the show broadcast because they assume it gonna be like Joseon Exorcist. After the broadcast, they still use the same excuse even though, KCSC doesn't take any action regarding the issue and now the court also throws out all their protest just like that. Now what? Yes, it ends with the court getting being bribed.
