What does IVE have that GUGUDAN, Weki Meki, PRISTIN,DIA didn't have?

  • too many members and members that weren't a good fit for the group, focusing mostly on the produce girls, bad debut songs, cheap mvs. it's like everything that could've gone wrong for post ioi groups was done.

ive has a solid lineup where while wonyoung and yujin are very popular, the other members are also gaining popularity and can stand up on their own. they actually have a good debut song. and starship didn't cheap out on anything. we'll see how their first comeback goes, but they've been set up for success in ways that post ioi groups just were not

  • One thing should be granted though, none of the companies would have been prepared for the success of Produce 101 season one, the impact on their own plans for the girl groups etc., to an extent true even for Season2.

So it is not unsurprising that they fumbled with most of the groups -containing an I.O.I member.

It is not as though companies are looking for their groups to fail.

But by now, they would have learnt and have a better sense how to incorporate that dynamic. IVE might be the result.

And another factor was they were building the groups right before, during and immediately after IOI, whereas IVE has a decent gap after IZ*ONE has been wrapped.

But again is it not too soon to decide, they are just one release old?

  • Pristin could be easily a GG I'd stan.

I liked the members and their songs a lot. Many people say their music wasn't good, but I found them so fun (I even learned to sing Wee Woo almost entirely).

I've never got over their disbandment.

  • sadly, even though dia was my ult of all ults, they were boring and really didn't add anything interesting to kpop. they kinda just faded into obscurity after every comeback.

pristin i believe would've been extremely popular had pledis known how to manage them.

weki meki and gugudan are similar to dia: nothing interesting added to kpop.

ive is popular because of wonyoung and yujin, as well as them having a different sort of spark (?) at least for me. i see that they are well liked and starship used resources that they gained from wonyoung an yujin being in izone to build a successful group. the others (except pristin) didn't necessarily use the ioi girls popularity to promote.

I think they were a wonderful group. Had the makings of a super star group. They had so many talented girls (main singer Sungyeon was a powerhouse). Stock full of visuals and a fun concept.

I loved Wee Woo too. And stanned when I heard my favorite song by them. We.

I wanted them to go to the top. But alas. It wasn't meant to be.

(I haven't got over it either haha)

  • Izone had 2 years not 8 months to develop a passionate, devoted fanbase. All post Izone acts have done exceptionally well in terms of sales. Eunbi had the 31st best selling album in Gaon history for a female soloist, Yuri is at 17. Even Hyewon's unpromoted album sold out within a day of preorders opening up. Eve not only has the most popular member in WY and one of the most popular members in Yujin, but WY especially is the 4th gen It Girl. Her face is plastered everywhere. You can thank these two for Eve's sales and Melon charting.

  • There's certainly a bunch of factors:

    - The companies had no idea about how to deal with the post-I.O.I girls. The Produce series was a new thing, it's success and how to milk it to their best ability was a foreign notion cause they had no idea what to do with it. Hence they made some mistakes which is my next point:

    - Adding too many members on the lineup, not focusing enough on each member as individuals and pushing the spotlight mostly on the ex-I.O.I girls.

    - Lukewarm debut songs. This is mostly for Gugudan, Weki Meki, Pristin. Obviously, not that a badly received debut song would be the end, but it certainly wouldn't hurt having at least this

    - Rushing. This mostly for Gugudan, Dia and WJSN but it probably wasn't the smartest idea to pull members out of the lineup to debut or have a comeback when I.O.I was still a group.

All this resulted in not very successful groups. I think Starship realized all the errors and corrected them

Also a bit of luck and timing did wonders. Leeseo just so happened to go viral and when IVE debuted there wasn't any strong competition or big groups around.

  • Izone had 2.5 years to build a stable fanbase. IOI only had 9 months. They barely debuted before they disbanded. Plus Wonyoung is more popular in Korea than anyone in IOI except maybe Somi (who went solo) and Sejeong. Starship is also a bigger agency then Jellyfish and Fantagio. Pristin was the most successful post-IOI group even though they did have the most popular ex-IOI members partly because they were under Pledis. And honest IVE is also a better group. Gugudan had a fair bit of hype at debut and their first chart position was good… then it fell like a rock because people didn’t like it.
