Starting a discourse

  • 1. I heard this weird line a while back somewhere on AKP "You don't have to listen to a song again if you didn't like it the first time" or "The song shouldn't have to grow on you"... Or something along the lines of this....

This, in my opinion, is the stupidest thing I have heard in past few months.

If everyone made catchy, sometimes generic music then there would no fun or variety. There should be someone who pushes boundaries of pop music let alone music itself.

What are your thoughts and opinions on the statement in bold letters?

  • I mean, it's fine if a song grows on you. Sometimes you won't get what the song is about until a few listens, then the pieces fall together, and you like it. That's valid.

On the other hand, if you don't want to listen to a song again after first listen, that's your choice, and sometimes with multiple listens, you still might not like the song anyways. All valid.

But I do agree that it's nice we have some more experimental stuff out there. Keeps things interesting.

I love this balanced point of view. Mine is way harsher i presume.

  • I think people consume music differently.

I understand the thought that listening to a song you don't like multiple times can come across as if you're trying to force yourself to like it, and some people just know what they like and don't like when they hear it.

But, I also understand listening to a song multiple times and eventually having it grow on you because it might not necessarily be that you don't like the song overall, just parts of it. And after listening to those parts you didn't like alongside the ones you did...it can cause a new appreciation for a song.

So, I think that both ways are valid ways of consuming music, and that neither is wrong. The only thing wrong is judging others for consuming music differently than you may.

  • A song doesn't have to be catchy for me to love it immediately, not at all. I listen to a fairly wide variety of music (a variety of genres, including classical music, because I myself play violin).

But if I hate a song the moment I hear it, I hate it. I never once changed my mind later on, no matter how many times I listened to it.

If there's something in the song's structure that annoys me, it's only going to get worse over time.

People are different. If songs can grow on you, I kind of envy you to be honest. But it doesn't work for me.

  • I think if there is a song I absolutely hate and dont like one thing of in the first listen, then I dont repeat it...

    But

    1. If I am confused or don't understand what's going in the song in the first time then I give it a second chance cause I know I may end up enjoying it after figuring it out a little (its can be like a complicated dance move you don't get at first but when you do, its really fun like shuffling lol)

    2. If there is one part of the song I really like, while I don't like other parts, I give that song a chance again, because I feel the song has good potential to grow on me, and because that one certain part is too good to waste, especially if that part is stuck in my head... (eg, I remember for next level at first, but the beat drop in it was so sexy I ended up listening to the song a little more and ultimately loved every bit of it)

  • I get it a lot of times that I listen something and I find it just ok. Then I listen second time and I notice one part of the song, maybe the way they sing there. Or the instrument what’s in that part is good. Sometimes I need to listen more to find little things I appreciate in a song.

Like I didn’t like Sticker when it came out because the flute thing. But I liked the way they were singing. Then Favorite came out and listening Sticker after Favorite just great. Favorite has a whistle thing in it, softer then the flute in Sticker. It is more melodic and after listening it then go to Sticker I feel like the flute make sense. It’s like a quiet before a storm and I always listen these two together ever since the repackage came out as if they need each other.

    :pepe-toilet:

Sticker grew on me like a spot.

Nap of a star. First I couldn’t recognize the boys voice because the autotune in it. It was like 5 Hyuka singing. Then read the lyrics and the meaning of it was touching. Listened again when streaming and slowly I noticed the voices one by one. From the time I became a Moa until now I “learned” that song like I learned about the members.
