I hope so! Japan is generally more accepting of foreigners than Korea so they'll have a pretty good shot.

Following Niziu I see ITZY being big in Japan. They haven’t debuted yet but garnered quite the impact already. Not sure about the others.

I think it will be very competitive among japanese kpop fans, but i'm not sure many groups will reach very far beyond that and into other sections of japanese music fans. Maybe one or two groups will find more moderate success in this area (kind of like BTS and TWICE at the moment)?

It will be between Enhypen, TXT and Treasure. Other groups that appeal to Japan might debut in the future also.

I can see it, most groups haven't debuted there yet or have just begun to last year and are already doing good.

Idk since so many of them have their eyes set on the western market. Usually we’d see groups making their Japanese debuts by releasing Japanese versions of their songs by now, but I’m seeing more groups drop English versions of their songs.

I don't see anyone being as big as BTS or TWICE in the Japanese market because the two groups have become household names there and even known by the general public.

But those with the best shot are probably TXT, ENHYPEN, Stray Kids. Unfortunately for girl groups, NiziU would probably dominate 100% but ITZY got a good shot if they debut there as well.

Yup and I think Treasure will outdo them all

with the Japanese k-pop fans, yes of course, with the GP? no, I don't think so, groups like BTS or TWICE took advantage of a void that existed in the Japanese industry, BTS gained a lot of fame in 2016-2017, when the new trinity of Johnny's had not yet debuted, and TWICE gained a lot of fame taking advantage of the disappearance of KARA and Shojo Jidai.

Now new groups have huge competition

I think 4th gen Male groups overall will be stronger then 3rd gen male groups in JP.

Treasure can do very well once promoted. Interested to see their JP sales.

I think the fact that they sold 90k with a debut album there means the Japanese like their music. And I doubt OP knows the gp taste that well.

Out of the new groups, NiziU, TXT, ITZY, and Enhypen have the most promising starts. Treasure & SKZ are also standouts.

TXT topping charts, enhypen breaking records and topping charts with only one debut KOREAN album, stray kids getting better and better in japan.. Some other 4th gen groups have been doing well there too. 4th gen will definitely surpass the 3rd gen boy groups and will be much bigger in Japan (exception is only bts). It will be more interesting to see what 4th gen group is going to dominate and be the biggest one in Japan

there is only one problem and that is if they decide to block kpop again in Japan. They have done it before and I anticipate they will do it again if Korean companies get greedy. But I feel like Japan is going to use TXT to make their animes more popular on mediaplay, one can see the mentions of TXT when promoting the animes they play music to.

Seeing the interaction between MOAS and Black Clover fans is interesting because it shows that there may be a positive association between kpop and anime.

Treasure is basically guaranteed in Japan and I think TXT will join them. Skz already has a pretty sizable fanbase in Japan as well

rn It's ITZY is by far the most popular. Will have to see how others do in 2021.

Japan is waving to Treasure since last year. Their ost for Black Clover gained positive responses, even the maker acknowledged it considering that TXT did an ost for black clover before them

For now TXT, Treasure and Enhypen can grow a sizable fandom there. It's already the case for txt and still growing and it is to be expected for the two others (having Jpn members and already doing well physically).

Itzy has the digital monster potential given that they were able to chart decently and long time without any promotions but for that JYP will have to make them debut and I am still waiting.

Anticipate Txt's comeback next Wednesday and already listen to Force, the masterpiece!

No group will ever be on the level of TVXQ in Japan. At the time of their peak, many of the Japanese people actually believed TVXQ were a Japanese group. Also they still sell out arenas 18 years after debut. No group can replicate that

When you know they never debuted in Japan yet or have japanese songs (official) but still can stay in top5 of LINE for many hours despite it, it's impressive.

6 day since "My Treasure" was released and they are still 2nd on LINE (they were 1st for 3 hours before this) despite the song being Korean. Pretty sure if their song was japanese, they could stay at 1st place for a freaking long time.

Rakuten is a quite minor streaming site but I agree that they're doing well on line and in charts. YG definitely should debut them soon but not too soon and let them flourish in the market or that'd be a waste!
