I still don't get what's "westernized" song.
Ohh I remember that video! Yeah IDOL's lyrically/MV symbolically SUPER Korean & super clever, but the music production is also SUPER Westernized, so I see why it got the hate tbh. 😅 Not that BTS ever rly deserves hate for the most part, but they ARE celebrities and the #1 KPOP group so it IS kinda unavoidable.
(Personally IDOL's my least favorite title track & one of my least favorite BTS songs besides MOT:7 B-sides.)

IDOL is a magnificent track, gets me hype every single time. It's also one of my absolute favorite tracks in their stadium shows; the energy is electric!
Korean and Afrobeats yup sounds very western to me lmao! People should've said what they really meant which was "I'm upset BTS is getting popular in the west". I'm so tired of people questioning BTS' Koreaness especially since its coming from non Koreans most of the time. Completely out of line and inappropriate.

When Kpop fans are calling BTS of all groups westernized when Kpop as an industry is a ripoff of Japanese idol culture combined with music genres made in America, you know they're talking out of their ass.
idol is actually one of bts' mid tier hits in sk too. one of the biggest examples that people will say ANYTHING to hate on bts without knowing what they're talking about.
When a mid tier hit charts for 79 weeks and is certified in both streaming and downloads.

Ddaeng was probably their most clever diss track but idk about the other part.
The music production was actually Korean woodwind instruments and an Afrobeat rhythm, on top of trap hi hats. IDOL is like a hodgepodge of 3 different cultures in one song.
it really was, not to mention people tried an overall flip narrative bc of its divide eith the remix and failing to get a pak like fl, it won in the end tho 
an easy way to find out which account was an ignorant sheep was if they parroted that nonsense at it so that was nice I suppose lol

I knew there were Korean traditional instruments in it but forgot about the afrobeat (ofc knew about the trap).
It certainly still does still represent one of the major turns/signature shifts of BTS's sound turning from "KPOP" to "Western music" (aka trap), along w/DNA, but you make an excellent point about the inherent Korean-ness of the MV symbolism, Korean traditional folk music sounds & a few phrases from said music as well.
After Re-watching both "(BTS Songs) Explained By a Korean" videos for IDOL & Ddaeng, I agree now that IDOL is the most "bombastically Korean" (or most obviously/in a showing-off flamboyant manner) has the most overtly traditional Korean cultural references in both the MV symbolism & lyrics (with common phrases from traditional Korean music being used).
TBH I mostly remembered this comment from Ddaeng's YT explanation video comment section:
At face value, the basic meaning of most of IDOL's lyrics can be understood by someone unfamiliar w/the Korean language.
However Ddaeng's lyrics mostly make references to parts of experiencing everyday modern Korean life that only modern Koreans would understand *at all* w/o extensive explanation (such as this video):
Thus why I thought of it as "the most Korean" BTS song, or actually *requiring BEING KOREAN* to understand. 🙂

I also remember people hated the music video but honestly tho without understanding all the Korean elements I still enjoyed IDOL and still do. From beginning to end the song makes me hyped. The criticism about it being westernized comes with it being from BTS because everything BTS does will be critiqued for catering to the west. I’m honestly at the point where I don’t if people seriously believe it or are just parroting it.

The term isn't being used anymore, wonder what happened? Now they just use "generic" or "i miss bts old music" to trash bts music. Kpoppies get bored with terms easily
