Man...all the girls fixing their hair on the side.... im dying lol what is this???? Why is this section so darn long

  • LilWayne199

Changed the title of the thread from “Most awkward Killing Part Solo ever” to “[GP999] Most awkward Killing Part Solo ever”.
  • but why go off to the side like that at all? why not like do some poses in the background or hold a pose.

bc the point was for her to have a...solo? they're off to the side so that they're not on camera distracting from what people are supposed to be paying attention to. thats the whole point of the camerawork in the actual performance cut.

  • It wouldn't be a solo dance break otherwise. That's what they wanted to choreograph as the killing part.

Maybe its different in kpop dancing, but i come from a competitive hip hop dance team background, and while there are solos, they are usually not framed like this. Generally our solos would be like either people frame the solo by doing some kind of pose in the background that creates a picture or frame for the solo, or doing very simple complimentary choreo in the back behind the soloist that doesn't take away from the solo but adds an extra layer or dimension of flavor to the performance. We generally wouldn't do this kind of solo where everyone stands on the side because it quite frankly doesn't look that interesting or creative from an artistic standpoint.

I think it's very different to think of it from a camera point of view, than from a stage point of view. Since the camera will only be focusing on Dayeon, it will be zooming in to just her. In that case extra movement or even just extra people in the background like you're describing can be distracting and detract from the solo, instead of adding to it.

I left my heart in LA again. Please continue taking good care of it.

hmm kinda yeah i guess. i ll give you that one.

  • Some people are starting to say this make Dayeon look bad for hogging too much of the spotlight because she kinda choreographed the entire thing and gave herself a lot of center time.

Which directly contradicts what the judges said about it. They said she did a great job of choreographing it to give the other members some great moments.

That's why it's weird. I mean technically the judges are watching the actual live performance are they? Or are they watching from a big screen TV like in concerts where they have giant screens for those who cannot see the live stage.

They're sitting in front of the stage and watching the actual performance.

This time the other contestants were in a different room and watching it on a monitor.

Naah girlie alone choreographed the whole thing and make 8 other girls follow it perfectly while making sure everyone gets to capture the camera with a memorable move.. she deserves this solo part very well

But, the performance was meant to impress the master sitting in front of the stage?

Which memorable move? Seemingly, rarely anyone could remember anything but Dayeon's screen time.

Wasn't the performance meant to be judged by masters sitting by the stage?

What great moment? Can you recount any?

because she won the centre part so she took a centre solo break.. thats common in dance performances usually lmao

Is it common to have 2 solo dance breaks, and both to the same person too?

the judges seemed to remember every move and girl and they were the one judging..

if her centre time was out of limit it would have been called out anyways...

just because you cant recount one does not mean everyone feels the same lol :pepe-cowboy:

  • Imagine if they call her out it will be the end of her entire kpop career

yeah true lol mnet seemed to give her some good screentime finally.. I was waiting for it because her talent was going waste thanks to making her seem as if she had no presence or whatever and "didnt stand out" well ..

like first everyone said "my eyes dont go to her, she has no presence" and now that she is shining and getting it everyone is still complaining like pick a narrative

So, you don't really remember either ....

And, she's being called out because many viewers felt it was out of limit.

  • it wasn't awkward in the actual performance and she freaking killed it...

Vote for Dayeon everyone if you want some actual talent to make it in

she will be finalist but I don't think she will make it to the group

there are few K-girls which are more talented and attractive, and we know that Koreans love visuals

  • I find her pretty idk why others dont.. I feel like she is the most talented K-trainee along with song yeongeun and bora

the final lineup right is very visual focused

it's MNet, so they will push for one of young girls: Myah, Yeseo or Bahiyyih

you can already see they've got lot's of screentime in previous episodes

and Dayeon is just bit older than them, but if they will see that Yujin still ranks very high in 2nd global voting ranking then I think they will check how Yeseo ranks, and might do another push for one of younger girls because last voting will probably be individual one or we will be able to vote for one individual trainee or for top 9 without country restrictions

i have a feeling mnet producer told judges to not call it out. u can understand that mnet is trying to tell a redemption story and having the judges call her out here would ruin her redemption arc

  • So, you don't really remember either ....

I honestly think the whole thing was scripted, so I think it's unfair to call Dayeon out. Like who would come up with a choreo where a single person goes solo for some time and the other girls stands off to the side? There are 8 other girls fighting for their survival too. So I'm assuming Mnet told them this is what they will be doing and the other girls had no choice. In return, they will get great reviews from judges, etc etc. And then showing Dayeon as the #9 position only at the end. It's too obvious what they are up to, and I'm not surprised that ppl who understand what's going on is annoyed with it. That's the reality of survival shows I guess, they can't rig the votes now, so they have lean heavily on other techniques.

they literally voted her to have the "killing part" ?? there are plenty of kpop choreos where people stand to the side while a certain group of members of a certain member has a solo. and the salute stage with caibing likely has a similar type of solo for caibing. its crazy to me that you think none of the girls would have said anything if they werent comfortable with it and that mnet wouldnt have made a big seal about any drama like that

  • I don't watch the episodes and only follow the performances mnet uploads on YouTube , so as casual viewer I can say that this is one of the few performances in all their survival shows where I noticed the center had more than half of the whole spotlight and the rest of the girls didn't have memorable parts...if I didn't knew Myah and the huening girl it would have been even worse, only noticing the girl pouting at the start and the one doing a cartwheel(?

At some point during the last part it looked like soloist Dayeon ft her friendly and cute backdancers...
