Boy group trend - winning music tv shows thanks to album sales

  • There ain't any chart longevity, well there barely is any charting, yet there are multiple boy groups that are winning those music tv shows just thanks to their high album sales which in 90 if not 95% come from i-fans.

What would be your idea to "fix" the current point system in music tv shows, and to make it more fair and square?

    I would suggest a performance bonus - 1000 or 1500 points.

Would also add some limit to not get situations when for example one boy group sells 1 million so they got 3000 points in table, and other group or soloist sales are 50-100k and they get barely if any points...

Also rule should be implemented that if you ain't performing at least once in Inkigayo then you ain't able to win in Inkigayo

if you ain't performing at least once in Music Bank then you ain't able to win in Music Bank, etc.

  • I just looked at music show win counts since April this year, and you are correct:

    Boy Groups: 45 wins (55.56%)

    Girl Groups: 19 wins (23.46%)

    Female Soloists: 10 wins (12.35%)

    Male Soloists: 7 wins (8.64%)

    TOTAL: 81 wins

I'm not opposed to a "performance bonus", but it may not help girl groups that much, since boy groups generally (aside from BTS) promote on music shows too and would thus also receive the bonus points.

    • Official Post

There's already a music show participation trophy on The Show.

I also find it weird that the answer is never "get gg fandoms to actually support them" :/

  • different rules for different shows...

if you win under the criteria set then you win!!!!

    I don't think there's any need to change it...personally

if it ain't broke don't fix it

Except for Music Bank, the way scoring currently works is that, assuming a show allocates 1000 points to the physical sales category, the top selling release will get 1000 points, and all other releases will get a proportional number of points based on their sales. For example, if the best selling song for the week sells 1.8 million copies, it would get 1000 points, and a second place song that sells 70000 copies would get (70000 ÷ 1.8 million) × 1000 = 39 points.

Alternatively, you could establish a "baseline" sales figure that, if reached, would allocate a particular song maximum physical points. For example, if a music show had a "baseline" sales amount of 250000, the first place song with 1.8 million physical sales would of course get 1000 points, while the second place song with 70000 physical sales would get (70000 ÷ 250000) × 1000 = 280 points. This would thus reduce the influence that huge physical sales can have on scores.

  • They do need to do smith about the yt ads count btw it's not fair for many artist bc it's not even organic growth

Like fandom gets bigger, they buy more or the gp interest increase so they chart better but yt ads are just pushed by the company and then they stop by the time they stop promoting

  • We have attendance based shows so no need to put everything into attending.

Also if we are putting a limit on physicals sales should do the same for digitals.

We already have shows were digital is given mkre importance and gg or soloists with good digitals can win there.

  • I get the point being made but let's not forget Bangtan inflates the bg win score although this year there has been other groups

Most of public TV shows put more weight into digital sales than physical. Only Music Bank is easier for bgs to win

You also have to take into account live voting and prevote, where bgs usually win by far so would you also want to remove these categories?

This sums up pretty much my opinion

In the end the three most watched/public music shows give importance to digitals and have given ggs and bts the advantage except music bank for really good physicals

Boo hoo, get over it. You don't see OSTs or songs popular soloists win either.

No one wants to listen to reason on this forum.

If a fandom grows over time, why should the artist have a limit set on their physical growth? That's stupid, sorry not sorry.
