If I am not wrong, I-fans can't give streams to artists & won't be able to counted as Unique listener. They can only give like & follow.

I hope they dont let intl fans stream on Melon, otherwise it will greatly skew the popularity of groups in Korea.

Physical sales are inflated, youtube views are inflated, and the last thing kpop needs is an inflation of unique listeners from outside Korea, on a local chart.

If it happens, kpop and its credibility, regarding popularity will be lost.

That might be why the Senior Singer is largely retiring from singing? If i-fans can influence Melon, Lee JIeun can NEVER win #1 in the Melon charts for the rest of her life.

Prepare for the worst because it's still a possibility as it is 3rd generation still populates kpop and the only 4th generation groups that can hold their own are girl groups. I don't see any 4th generation boy group having a BTS moment so this might kickstart a trend for 4th generation groups It will lose all credibility from then on.

If they included streaming capability, then goodbye to all non-idol singers. Poor them, only a few that will chart.

Unless they secure worldwide licensing, they can't open MelOn streaming to users outside of South Korea. If they do, they will be open to huge lawsuits.

This is insignificant news. Access to the platform without the ability to stream is worthless. The issue of effects on charting is moot.

This is a horrible idea international stans shouldhave no input on how successful a song does DOMESTICALLY 😭

As long as Melon doesn't let ifans stream, it's ok with me.

I tested with my Kakao account, I can indeed like songs and albums. But I can't buy a pass since I'm not registered to a Korean number.

Even if Melon truly goes international, still majority of its user base will be Korean,

Even if Melon achieves significant traction in other markets and keeps its content mostly Korean,

Only if Melon achieves both a large non-korean content and non-korean content,,,

In that case, it won't be just IU who will be impacted, but entire Kpop. If that is the cause for retirement, then there would be many more.

HanguKpop (Kpop singing Korean ) will rarely make it to the top - an occasional viral song might

EnguKpop (Kpop singing English) will have to compete with the rest of the world's Eng-pop and take its chances.

Anyway premature speculation.

More probable is Melon losing its market and audience considerably in Korea itself.
