I feel if Chungha keeps up the MJ vibe from her Dream of you and the modern pop bridge theme from Bicycle, and uses that to push west I think she might also be able to make strides.

Edit: MJ as in Michael Jackson - specifically referring to smooth criminal but also generally encompassing MJ's discography.

1. BoA, Rain and Se7en 2006 -2009

I had no idea that Rain and Se7en made US debuts.

2. Girls' Generation 2009 - 2011

3. Wonder Girls 2009 - 2012

4. Psy 2012

5. KCON, Kpop concerts, Fashion 2012 - 2019

2ne1 and Bigbang being the first major players in solo US shows and first boy group to chart on billboard 200.

Meanwhile Gdragon introduced the whole Kpop idols and fashion thing with channel and today we have lots of Kpop idol designer brands endorsers. Fashion lovers got introduced to Kpop.

6. Twitter and YouTube 2010 - present.

Especially fan translators of all kinds of different idols' content.

7. BTS 2006 - present

8. Black Pink 2016 - 2021

9. HYBE, Nct and the future 2021

Each act above opened doors to the success and spread of Kpop as they attracted/attract fans in all that they did/do in the US.

True... I think she'd still benefit from going west though,

1. she has more breathing room out west, age wise.

2. There's been lots of comments that one of the reasons that she doesn't do well in korea is simply that she isn't really compatible with kpop; she makes really good east-west fusions but only markets them domestically.

Still its going to be an uphill battle. She'll need to do some major positioning and restructuring to really start to push west. Though considering that she spent a lot of time in, texas she might try to hit latin america first, as seen with Demente.

--edit: don't get me wrong Imma midzy too but like I also multistan so its not a zero-sum view! I hope both get the recognition that they deserve out west!

Then BTS and BP walked on the roads they paved and hit homeruns.

Kpop is growing in popularity and tends to be known mostly in the US, but the GP still doesn't care. I do not know, however, how it is perceived in Canada.

In Europe it is absolutely not popular, the vast majority of Kpop fans are young girls and Kpop is mostly seen as low quality music.

I do often wonder why K-pop is growing at the steady rate it has been over the last few years.

Rack my brain constantly over this.

Almost like there was a catylst. But who knows. The sudden interest in this genre that has been trying to crack America for years is baffling.

Oh well guess we'll never know. Just enjoy the ride everyone and all the attention groups are getting from an international audience lately.

We'll figure this phenomenon out one day.
