does bg doing gg covers feel disrespectful to you?

  • okay hear me out.. I am not talking about all the covers, a lot of them are done beautifully and respectfully..

and I dont care about them changing choreo to fit styles either...

but there have been several instances when bg members covered gg songs with a whole cosplay going on and then going on to do shit like lifting skirts or acting overly cringe..

do you guys find it okay? cause I simply don't...

just dressing up is still okay, but playing around like a joke especially the sexual ones just doesn't sit right with me

  • are you talking like cross-dressing?

    like this?

  • I think now the covers aren't bad but back in 2nd gen era, it looked more like mocking than appreciation.

Definitely. It could be a bit of a mess back then

Although sometimes some idols actually took it seriously like Ren here

tbh yeah, but cross dressing isnt the problem, them acting weird to be funny seems to be problem..

this vixx cover isnt really disrespectful..

I am talking about instances like when ikon covered gfriend in their concert...

  • tell me what you wanted? — 140308 something | ren Bias vs Bias Slayer Challenge: Day 10 | Nu'est 1 Amino

  • true, these days they have certainly been better and more respectful...

Yup, I have seen many nice covers from 4th gen idols esp.

Ren was more beautiful than even female idols so he gets a pass lol.

Yup, this one was great as well.

Daehwi definitely fits this song and Hyunjin also really pulls it off! I like the cover :lover3:

  • Yes the way boy groups covering girl groups is often played as a joke makes me uncomfortable too, especially when it becomes sexual. The contrast of girl groups covering boy groups being considered cool and impressive makes it even worse.

But as many said this have gotten better. You very rarely see covers like that nowadays.

This one doesn't cross the line imo.

  • so what i'm getting is that it's not so much the covers themselves but the sexualised nature of the acts that such groups perform during the cover that is an issue correct?

  • Honestly sometimes yes

and i don't have anything with them crossdressing etc....

It's just that i find this annoying when people ask them to cover a GG song and they try to make it stupid or funny, it just seems to me that they try to turn into ridicule the hard work of this GG

meanwhile they wouldn't do it if they were ask to cover a BG song

for example this type of male idols covering GG songs are the one who annoy me the most and make me want to punch them when they do this

  • There's nothing wrong in bgs covering ggs just like there's nothing wrong in ggs covering bgs. The problem is some of these guys overexaggarate on purpose, act over the top and make fun of ggs, maybe without realizing it. It's mostly bgs who are asked to cover groups on variety shows, bgs who do more professional covers and upload them on youtube are doing it really well and with lots of respect

  • i acc like this tho :pepefrog:

    I find it hilarious ^^

    This is gold. Seriously.

    :pepe-cringe:

But what Ikon did was just wrong. Really. There are some really good covers out there even with dressing up. But I don’t see the need to cosplay when they sing a gg song. 2nd gen was really cringe sometimes.

  • It really depends. There's a difference between being fun and mocking. It also depends if they are explicitly targeting girl groups of if they are making fun of everyone. If you make fun of everyone you aren't actually making fun of anyone.

For me these are fun without being disrespectful

  • I love The Boyz ggs covers. They are always respectful and they do it in their own style

  • you think dressing up as girls and going on to do sexual moves not in choreo, or lifting skirts is fine?

    umm okay..

Your comparing covers for TV shows for wide audiences versus Ikon fucking around at THEIR concert with THEIR fans.

It just seems like pearl clutching. i watched the full video and they were literally speed skipping around the stage to be dramatic at one point.

My guess is you hate drag also? Because it’s basically the same thing. Over-acting/impersonation of femininity for laughs/amusement. They are making fun of the obscurity of obvious men in wings “pretending” to be girls for the audience.

    • Official Post

I don't personally have a problem with it. Some of y'all would never make it through a drag show. :pepe-cringe:

I saw someone link the Stray Kids cover of Fancy and there were plenty of people complaining that they changed to choreography to be more "manly" so even when they do a "respectful" cover they're probably still gonna get dragged.

you didnt read what i wrote in my later posts i guess.. cross dressing or changing choreos is not the problem, doing degrdaing acts and making it seem funny isnt
