What's the difference between the visual, the center, and the face of a group?

Center is given by the company (you will notice it) while the face is the most popular for the public, who they think of first when group's name is mentioned

Center is purely a performance thing and has no meaning outside of performances: it's basically a key/center part of the choreo that a designated group member gets (often the one who's supposed to shine brightest).

Visual is a group role, like main vocalist/sub vocalist/main dancer/lead dancer/etc. Like with the other group roles, it's often a role a company appoints to a member (that K-pop fans pick up and take further).

Face of the group is more of a group ambassador/representative thing, like the most popular group member, the one that's most recognized and wellknown by the public.

Depending on how the group works, not all three are necessarily present in a group: when a group has no choreo where one person gets a central/main part that make him/her jump out the most, then there's no (clear) center.

If the company doesn't assign the 'visual' role to any of the members - and there's also no group member that in some way jumps ahead of the other members in looks to the extent that K-pop fans de facto see him/her as the main visual - then there's no(clear) visual in the group.

Face of the group, I don't hear that one mentioned as much as the other two titles, but there are many groups where it isn't clear who's the face of the group.

Center; Choreo center i am guessing

Face: recognizable especially among non fans

Visual: the most good looking

Tbh most of the time the center is also the face of the group.

Visual

Refers the the attractiveness when comparing members with each other. The roles of a Visual are Acting and Dancing, or anything that doesn't do with Vocals or Music, or Aural. However as there is a role for Dancing, it is rare that the Main Dancer is the Visual. The Visual will usually be all 3 categories.

Center

The Visual, or the member that stands in the middle for either Dance or Vocal or Photos for most of the groups' songs and Activities.

Face of the Group

The Visual, or the IT member, or the Main Vocal, the Main Dancer, the Main Rapper, the biggest Personality, the Extrovert, the Ugliest member, the Scandalous member, the viral member, the fan favorite. It's usually the most famous member and it depends on how many people agree with your own opinion for that :P

Groups can have multiple Visuals, Centers and Faces of the Group, the terms are generally used for groups of 5 or more members as a marketing tool
