I watched Kpop demon hunters.....

  • And i have one thing to say

EXPLAIN ME WHY ARE YOU ALL SO OBSESS WITH THIS MOVIE ???

Looking at people comment here defending this movie with all their strenght

I thought it was going to be sooo good

And turns out it's just like any other animation movie

Clearly not on the level of a pixar or disney movie

Not bad not good, just neutral but i wouldn't want to watch it a second time and it's probably not a movie i'll remember at the end of the month

  • For me, I actually didn't really like the movie when I watched it, it felt too choppy and like nothing was fleshed out. We didn't even get a proper enemies to lovers arc with Rumi and Jinu, we didn't flesh out the other characters and I wanted to have seen the place where Rumi grew up and how she was raised to hate demons. Allegedly the movie was meant to be much longer than it was and it showed that they cut a lot of scenes.

But the songs are just so good and I couldn't get them out of my head, and then I started seeing edits of the characters and lore videos on the movie and idk now I'm excited for a movie 2 which will probably come out in 9th gen...

Bottom line, the songs make the movie.

  • The music and animation are really good, and its just a fun time with all the kpop references. Its really not very deep, I think people can recognize the pacing issues and problems with the story but still have a great time watching.

  • It's called having a different opinion, SM stan.

I'm sure someone out there thinks every song and every group to come out of SM Entertainment sucks. For some reason I don't think you would respond well to those people going "WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE LIKE SM ARTISTS? IT'S OVERRATED SLOP"

There are very few things in life more worthless to argue about than people liking something you don't like.

The storyline is honestly a big mess

    - first of all the jinu rumi love story came out of nowhere there was no development to it

    - jinu motive are so dumb, he's doing all of this to forget his memory to the point that he's ready to sacrifice himself because it can set him free

In this case he should have let rumi kill him

    - the 2 other members zoey and the red hair girl ( just the fact that i don't remember her name is a proof of how underwhelming and underutilize they were) background could have been explore more

Cuz they are presented as strong people, who went through a hard training and are positive etc...and then it took 2 seconds for them to go to the dark side

    - i thought that we would get a flashback to understand how a demon can make a baby with a hunter which would have been interesting and give more substance to the story

But i never got the answer

I think i don't disagree with people calling it a kids movie

It's an animated movie where most of the gag in it didn't make me laugh at all and were clearly targeted to a younger audience.

Plus the plot lacked of substance and depth would be hard to enjoy if you are use to watch movie, while a kid i think could enjoy it without thinking about all these things

    ALSO BIG MINUS TO ME

I thaught that it was cool that an anime was talking about kpop idol

But even this was badly executed

  • The hype is most regarding the OST and song released. Even though they are technically a fictional group and should not be compared to actual kpop ggs (and some chart accounts do not) but the OSTs are pretty good.

The movie itself is really not on the same level as the good animation movies like Coco, HTTYD. But these days good movies are becoming more and more scarce

Tbh i find the OST songs pretty bland

The only good song from this movie is Golden and that's it

  • The music and animation are really good, and its just a fun time with all the kpop references. Its really not very deep, I think people can recognize the pacing issues and problems with the story but still have a great time watching.

Actually i thought the kpop side of the movie would make it great

But imo it was so under utilise, they could have show more about what being a kpop idol means

i feel like as a kpop fans i found it underwhelming but also i felt like the movie made a misleading representation of the kpop world and idol life

  • Wait a second.

Are you actually just upset HUNTR/X is stepping on aespa on every chart and using this thread to vent your frustrations? :meme-trying-not-to-laugh:

    Oh please

Go put your finger in a n electrical outlet maybe it'll finally create an electric current in your brain to reactivate your braincells

I literally said in this same thread that i actually find Golden very good as a song

And unlike you, charts aren't everything

I watched a movie about KPOP that make the Kpop community talk about it

So it's pretty normal to make a Thread to share My opinion about this movie and discuss it with other Kpop fans who watch it

  • Charts are absolutely everything to you. You talk about it more than me, and you are deeply upset when your expectations get crushed by the harsh reality.

Clearly I hit a bullseye given how emotional you're getting over the mere suggestion you have some ulterior motives. Especially since I also now remember how mad you were that people roasted Taeyeon for her comments about the movie.

Yep, it all makes perfect sense now.

Also, give me some random who's obsessed with charts over a person who just can't possibly fathom why other people loved something they didn't.

  • songs are good, movie is ok but boring. i couldn't watch more than 30 minutes. Most kdramas are more interesting

    I wouldn't say boring

It actually was a good way to spend my time

I didn't have a really bad time watching it

But like someone mention i think some scenes were cut

And you can feel it in the way the movie flow

One of the thing that honestly made me hard to me to really enjoy the movie

Is that i liked none of the characters cuz none of them had any depth or backstory

    I thought Rumi had potential

But the lack of development of her backstory was something that really made it hard to enjoy the movie cuz it was hard to understand her motive

I get that she's part demon part human but she hate her demon part

But i would have love to get more information about how her parents meets ? if she hates demon so much does it mean that she hates her own father ? How she was educate to hate herself ?

    So much questions left unnotice

  • Omg you're so dumb i can't

Did i say that i can't accept that people love this movie

Your reading comprehension is seriously lacking

I clearly said that i didn't find bad neither very good and i was neutral about it, and my thread was only asking for people opinion about this movie and what's the thing they like about this movie to be obsess

If people likes it or hate it, it's their opinion i'm not gonna judge them about it

I'm just here to discuss a MOVIE !!

LMAOOO trust me nobody is more obsess about charts than you, i mean look at this

We are all just sharing our opinions about a movie that i didn't even say i dislike

But you're the only person here who still find a way to talk about chart in a thread who have no link to chart

    Talk about chart obsess !

  • Please don't resort to intelligence based personal attacks when you have a profound inability to utilize critical thinking skills in most discussions.

If you want to just review a movie, post your little thinkpiece and keep it moving.

But there is a massive difference between "I watched Kpop Demon Hunters and I wasn't impressed. Here are all the flaws I think the movie has", compared to:

OMG HOW CAN SO MANY OF YOU LIKE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH? IT'S TRASH!!!!

The former is just giving an opinion on something extremely subjective to begin with.

The latter is what you did, and that's not discussing the movie as you claimed but putting YOUR subjective opinion on a pedestal and wondering how anyone could like something so much that you didn't.

Slippery slope logical fallacy at its finest. Someone could easily take that same specious argument and use it on your favorite hobby, K-Pop.

"I finally listened to some K-Pop artists and OMG HOW CAN ANYONE LISTEN TO THIS BASIC, DATED AND MANUFACTURED EMPTY CALORIE POP TRASH???"

You framed the conversation this way and wonder why you get pushback.

  • I definitely enjoyed KPop Demon Hunters, and wouldn't mind seeing it again, but I also wasn't blown away. Nor was I expecting to be. Of course the target demographic skews younger, and I'm ancient by this forum's standards. I don't believe younger target demo inherently makes a movie less good, but they are generally going to prioritize different things that I am generally looking for in film. That being said, I think it successfully executed exactly what they were going for.

If you wanna talk about the success of it, I think the KPDH phenomenon is more about what it represents. For a while, people have been getting bored with the clear visible corporatizaion of Pixar/Disney franchises, with which you may disagree (The last Pixar movie I found truly compelling was Coco, which was 8 years ago). Both the stories and the art style has become very predictable and safe, especially when compared to more boundary-pushing animated IP such as Arcane and Across The Spider-Verse (Like KPDH, by Sony Animation). It filled a particularly untapped niche, and did it in a bold way, without taking itself too seriously. And of course the soundtrack absolutely is a huge part of the success.

  • Your SM obsessed para social nature probably wrote this post because people trashed one of them for being condescending :pepe-joy:

Anyway there are many flaws in this movie but the part where you wrote it doesn’t compare to Disney or Pixar is laughable. Disney Pixar have been churning out flop after flop filled with utter crap animation and story for years now. It’s exactly because this movies was so much better than those films that it did as well. I would have given your opinion some value if you didn’t lie like that at least lol.

  • And turns out it's just like any other animation movie

Clearly not on the level of a pixar or disney movie

    I think that's the point.

    • The story line is a classic. Lot of new animations have become convoluted, and the newer pixar/disney spends a lot of screen time explaining/showing and setting up these convoluted storylines instead of moving the story along. Not overly preachy.
    • It combines familiar elements(Kpop/Demons) to create something new.
    • People like the Spider-verse style animations and the use of 2D style facial expressions using 3D.
    • The songs enhance the viewing experience, and they are well integrated into the flow of the movie. Usually musicals take you out of the story and provide a space for the characters to sing.
    • Authentic representation of S Korea and attention to detail.
    • The tiger is so darn cute.
  • "people" and its just ONE person who just so happens to be an SM idol :meme-erm:

Literally that thread and KPDH songs destroying the charts like he expected aespa to do are why this thread exists :pepe-joy:

Motives more transparent than a glass of Soda Pop...the smash hit song by the Saja Boys :boompepe:

I actually think that's one of it's strongest point

I usually get bored to have to spend 2 min in a 2h movie listening to people singing

Most of the time when i watch disney i skip the singing section cuz they are to me kinda of a filler thing

While honestly in this movie the "musical" section didn't feel burdensome and were flowing with the rest of the movie

Because the theme of the movie is kpop so it feel kinda natural to see them singing

And even if i didn't like some songs it wasn't just here to be "here" but the song was a central part of the movie and actually serve the purpose of making the story evolve

For example i think the song is takedown ? ( I watched in french so the songs were also translated which was disappoiting so i don't know the exact name in the us version)

I didn't like the song but because the creation of the song, the message, and the way it was included in the movie was a big part of the storyline

It didn't make me want to skip it when it started to play like i can do with disney song most of the time

  • I haven't watched this movie yet.

But I like "Your Idol" (this song keeps playing in my head)

And yes, that tiger is so cute looking.

Because of this thread, I might end up watch this movie with lower expectations.

But well... Coco was a movie that I watched with low expectations, and I ended up loving it.

  • It feels like a lot of hate towards this movie is because it's popular. It's easy to see why this movie is successful. Simple plot, great animation with a good soundtrack backing it. It's really not that deep of a film and that's okay.

The movie being on netflix and positive word of mouth is why many people are talking about it. I don't think the film would have the same effect if it was released in theaters first because people might be turned off about a film based on kpop.

  • It's quite enjoyable.

Some people also just seem to hate for the sake of it, as usual with some kpop fans.

  • It's not groundbreaking good like movies mentioned above but it has good visuals and catchy songs and i enjoyed the movie.

Don't think, dont have expectations and all is good lol because if you do, the movie has a lot of plot holes

  • it’s not bad, it’s enjoyable

There is just some things that need improvement

    Give it a try

  • I think maybe you just didn't understand the movie? A lot of the points you are making i don't understand

    - Jinu's and Rumi's love story didn't come out of nowhere, also is not like they became boyfriend and girlfriend or even kiss in the film, we saw something starting and that's it, it ended before it could become something more idk what's rushed about that

-Jinu lives with guilt the entire film, he also never said he wanted to kill himself so that wouldn't have been his first choice, the only reason he sacrificed himself was because of Rumi and she believing he can be good and that his biggest mistake doesn't defined his whole person, so when she is in danger he sacrifices himself in order to save her and help defeat the demon king, and in the process he was set free

    - I admit Zoey and Mira could have used more scenes to be fleshed out more so i won't say too much here

    - They fuck

    - Not everything animated is for kids, i am not saying kids wouldn't enjoy this movie but a lot of kids would probably not even understand the complexities about this film, it starts like a very fun movie kind of comedic and in the end it leaves you with a message who was very well tackled about not hiding your true self just because people wouldn't understand or would try to shame you for it, and that can be aplied to literally everyone having issues with accepting their true self in any way so it fits a broad audience

    - Really feels like yow atched 20 mins of the film and then didn't pay attention to the rest, maybe it's too complex for you

    - Is not even an anime

it's hilarious to me reading that netflix's excessive marketing and promo made it this popular lol. it got popular because of positive word of mouth. you know how many shows and films netflix produces and how many are number 1 or in top 5 on overall streaming chart? i heard about lots of film people clowned like j lo movie, rebel moon and 365 days (that film is a meme lol). did i watch them? no because people said they were awful.

i also don't think it would be popular in tethers but netflix could release it now. it could me eligible for oscars. but i don't think they care.

Yeah, if anything Netflix didn't market the film because they didn't have merchandise ready for it. I remember people on AKP on opening weekend looking to buy merchandise, and there was only a limited selection. I don't think Sony or Netflix predicted the film to be this popular. I think word of mouth was key for this film success because people had no intentions to watching it, but ended up checking it out because reaction to it was positive.

Also, great point about stuff like Rebel Moon that had heavy marketing and ended up flopping. I think Netflix limited involvement in marketing helped because I don't think they would know how to market this film properly. Word of mouth marketing doesn't always work, but it's a major reason why this film had reach.

I truly don't think this film would have the same effect if people had to watch in theatres first. Luckily for all parties involved it was a hit and it will be interesting to see how they market the sequel. I think that part is tough when people know what to expect and people possibly turning on it because it's popular.

Word of mouth works when something is awful too. It can work in both positive and negative way. Some people like to watch a good train wreck lol

I also don't think. Only kpop fans would want to see it, "kpop" in title would be a turn off to GP. But having it on netflix people wanted to give it a try because it's free, so to speak.

I've read many opinions from parents with kids of various age. Their teenage children recommend them to watch lt, and parents with younger children watched it because it's for kids. All parents ended up enjoying it. I recommend it to one 65yo woman, told her to ignored the title. She loved it.

Good kids movie is when it appeals to all audience which once was the case for Pixar and Disney. Their films keep on flopping. They forgot how to do it. It's obvious they have different executives now.
