All the Big 4 are about to have their own 5th-gen gg soon. Just for fun, who do you think has the best shot at being the leader of this gen?

  • What is your pick? 38

The 5th generation of big company girl groups will be all out soon. We already have Illit, BM, and Meovv (which I'm counting as part of YG) now. SM’s new girl group is set to debut next year, while there are rumors about JYP’s new girl group having four members, with an easy-listening song and a concept similar to Miss A and Lsf. I think they’ll probably debut next year or in 2026. Hybe might also debut a new girl group soon, maybe under Pledis since there were rumors about it before. Well they seems to be debuting new groups every year, so it's definitely possible.

I know it’s super early to guess anything, but just for fun, who do you think will have the best shot to be on the very top? Personally, I’m really curious about SM’s new girl group. They always nail it and their gg always have a lot of hype around them, and people are saying this one will be like SNSD 2.0, which has me hyped!

  • This is actually a hard one. Amongst the 3 ggs we have so far, I think Baemon is the group with the most potential to lead the 5th generation.

Illit has the best debut, for sure. Music and numbers wise, but their image took a blow and their comeback is charting but it just isn't IT. MEOVV... I mean, where are they? The Black Label is doing a great job at being worse than YGE when it comes to promotion strategy, there's no room for that "exclusive" bs anymore.

I'd risk saying SMNGG might have the best outcome, but only time will tell us. I just have this feeling that the wheel is turning in favor of SM, their time to dominate with a girl group is around the corner.

EDIT: ALTHOUGH, Illit is charting better I still believe BAEMON has the biggest growth and dominance potential to lead a generation.

  • Ahh. Just for fun? Would SMNGG get blocked by aespa if it's a Q1 group (weren't they supposed to be 2024 Q4?)? Maybe? HYBE groups always compete with each other, so they are always a bit crazy. YG has been middling with their top groups.

I don't think YG cares about South Korea these days, and I think that's increasingly going to be the case as their population goes down not just with YG but a lot of South Korean companies. East Asia, especially South Korea and Japan, are just going to lose relevance if they don't start importing immigrants, which is why I see a lot of companies focusing outward to SEA, to a decreasing but still large China, to the west, specifically America and Latin America.

HYBE can still diversify. But they are hedging with KATSEYE and and Le Sserafim in the west. Where is their next girlgroup heading towards? Obviously starting in Asia, but will they stick to it? Are they filling fromis_9's niches? The west's (America's) pop scene has renewed itself with new artists that are producing appealing content for teens, so it's not a relatively weak market anymore. HYBE isn't cracking Latin America either. They're just not.

SME is a primarily Asian-focused company, but they haven't had the top group since SNSD. Not that long ago just 10 or 11 years. The has the third with Red Velvet and the third with aespa (I'm giving a chance to IVE to comeback after touring). It's very consistent, and east Asia isn't collapsing in the next 5 years.

JYPE is kind of middling. Good sales but not top group sales. They could always rebound, but it's not expected. You just have to make the leap with them.

Give me SMNGG. A safe bet to be a top group, which is good enough with these options. Very consistent with their groups since the first gen. East Asia isn't facing their population bomb for another decade or two, so they're not going to get exposed for east Asia merchants just yet.

  • Kiss of Life and SMNGG!

Kiss of Life cuz they have amazing performers, good enough singers and very good songs(I had to chose them even if they are from small company and they have more potential than Illit or Baemon)

SMNGG- SM always brings quality music and their ggs never flopped well except maybe M.I.L.K

And market needs large number gg right now so if we will have rumoured 8-9 member gg they will dominate for sure! Their momentum is also insane cuz of Aespa and Hybe gg problem!

So I bet that on SMNGG

  • Yes but they are no longer a YG sublabel, it is like the situation with HYBE owning part of SM Entertainment. The Black Label is no longer under YG or distributed by them

Eh, they're still under YG's sublabel, as far as I know. They're just moving their headquarters out of the YG building. Is there any news or talk about this, can you perhaps link the source because I probably wrong but I never really see anything about this before

  • Yes but they are no longer a YG sublabel, it is like the situation with HYBE owning part of SM Entertainment. The Black Label is no longer under YG or distributed by them

yeah I know all this but it's not like YG is not associated with the black label at all since they still have some percentage 22% in shares it's just a lot less than before that was like 50% but based on what I'm seeing The Black Label still has an exclusive distribution contract with YG PLUS.

  • i actually voted for who i think will do the best instead of my faves lol

    honestly, baemon and illit

im not too hopeful for smngg because i have this feeling i'm not going to like their concept (its just a gut feeling sorry)

I don't see baemon going down the blackpink path because they have more members and none of them seem to have much solo potential, so if yg doesn't mess up and stops giving them cringy ahh lyrics, they could do so well.

illit's public image is terrible. there's not much more to say. but, their songs are more easy to listen to than baemon's so they might actually be the general public's pick if belift does their job right and turns the public in their favor again.

Kiof reminds me of Gidle. Kpop fans have a soft spot for both groups since their debut. Kiof just needs one hit song like 'Tomboy,' and boom, their sales and careers will change overnight. Many people already like them but still haven't found a reason to stick around.
