This is the issue with generations: these are groupings based around debuts in the Big 4, and because of that they have a lot of sway in regards to generations begin and end. And they'll cut things short simply due to convenience.
Increasingly, if not already, what group is and isn't in a generation is totally pointless.

Yeah, I have said many times before, the concept of "generations" have lost it's meaning since after the 3rd generation because it's increasingly hard to define any clear borders. It's at least somewhat clear what groups we talk about when we use it for 1st and 2nd generation girlgroups. The border between 2nd and 3rd, it starts to get a bit more unclear, we got a couple of bordeliner groups. But after 3rd it's starts to get impossible to tell where any kind of border are.

Then we should still be in 4th because Baemon just debut not long ago like what YG just casually skip a generation that ain't happening

People rushed a bit the beginning of the 4th generation (groups like Itzy or Iz*one make more sense to be compared with Twice/RV/BP... than to Ive/NJ/Aespa...), and the change to the 5th directly didn't make any sense, there's no reason to separate groups like BM or ZB1 from the top 4th gen groups that still are super active and some are just a couple of years old.
We tend to rush everything nowadays, and in this case it's perfect for fandoms to feed the need of bragging rights to make tweets of the records of each generation, but the change of generation should come with some change in the situation of Kpop as a whole or some change in the market like the blow up we had in the physical sales during the beginning of the 4th gen, it doesn't make sense to change because X years passed (and even less when each generation have less years than the previous one)

Yes, I feel the talk about the start of the 4th generation was way too earlier, groups like ITZY, Gidle are more like late 3rd generation groups and I would put Aespa as borderline late 3rd generation/very early 4th generation. Groups like NJ and Babymonster feels more like a more real border for the start of the 4th generation for the girlgroups.
